Friend of mine got this phonecall today.
Telephone call:-‘Good morning, I'm calling from the NHS test and trace service. According to our system, you are likely to have been in close proximity to someone who has tested postive for COVID-19. This means that you now need to self-isolate for 7 days and take a COVID-19 test.'
'OK. Can you tell me who that person was?'
'I'm not able to tell you that. That is confidential information.'
'Right. Um... so ....'
'But you do need to be tested within the next 72 hours. So can I just get the best mailing address so that we can send a kit to you?'
'Ok (gives address)'
'Thank you - and I just need to take a payment card so that we can finalise this and send the kit to you.'
'Sorry - a payment card? I though this was all free?'
'No - I'm afraid not. There is a one-off fee of £500 for the kit, and test results. Could you read off the long card number for me, please, when you're ready.'
'No - that's not right. This is part of the NHS so there's no charge.'
'I'm afraid there is. Can you give me the card number please - this is very important, and there are penalties for not complying.'
Puts phone down.
The friend said 'if they had asked for a £5 (or less) fee to cover the postage, many would fall for this and your bank account could be wiped out' -
Anyone heard of PCC - Property Compensation Claim (I think)
My sister has received a letter out of the blue from the above, saying that electric cabling runs under her property and she has been offered compensation of £150. Bungalow (by the coast) is probably 80s built, she and her late husband have lived there for about 25 years. Sorry my knowledge of the letter contents is a bit sketchy as I can only remember bits she read out to me. All this has come totally out of the blue and she didn't know about the cabling running under the bungalow. I've just read that they take a percentage of what is offered. I'm wondering if she should take solicitor advice - if she can at the present time.

Update --- overcharged Sainsburys
Rest of my money has now been refunded. Only have to write a letter to some on in authority. No use sending emails --all returned--or trying to contact headquarters (only recorded message).I feel staff should be trained to at least look at the total sum. Maybe I am ignorant not realising there might be quite a few people having a bill of over £800.00

I bought a Master Lock with light. Will let you know how I get on once it is installed. I opted for Saffron indoor button alarm system. Recommended from Social Services. They still in lock-down so have to wait to be installed.

American protests (Edited)
Isn't it about time that Trump stopped threatening the protesters and instead promised the population safety in any interactions with the police.
Many black people (and undoubtedly other colours too) have been assaulted to the point of death, when they should instead be guaranteed justice. People who interact with the police should not fear death as a result. We have seen the woman with her dog in Central Park who attempted to use the police as a weapon against someone who justifiably asked her to put a lead on her dog.
Why should anybody asking someone to comply with local laws be intimidated and feel that their life has been threatened?
America needs to come to terms with the fact that there are people of all colours and race and live with them, not against them.
If Trump attempted to let the populace know that every life, (not just black and not just white, but every life) matters and that anybody interacting with the police will have the full protection of the law, there would be no need to threaten to bring in the army. Nobody should fear for their life when interacting with the police, fear for their liberty yes, their life, no. -

Online banking and paying in cheques
The Barclays tv advert for online banking has a bloke saying, "and you can even pay in cheques".
I have Barclays online banking and you can't pay cheques in as far as I can see on screen.
Looks like I will be lining up outside the bank next week. This discussion is now closed.

Found out today that Amazon had taken £7.99 from my bank for audio books subscription.
I have never agreed to this or downloaded any books from them.
Once I messaged them they agreed straight away to a refund and to cancel my 'contract' - no quibble, no excuse of 'you agreed' etc. So they must be aware of this happening other times to people

Is there a way to eat filled tacos without making a mess?
Eating them from the top is a disaster.
Coming in from one end seems to be the best, but even then they can suddenly fall apart. -
Today I deliberately ignored the 2 metre social distance rule.
A woman got on the bus with a shopping trolley full to overflowing. She stood with it in the wheelchair space. The bus turned and the woman wasn't holding her trolley. It went over and her shopping went everywhere. Most of it up against the centre door where people might get on at the next stop.
I was the only person on the bus that went to help her pick everything up. Actually I was keeping her trolley upright with one hand while grabbing items off the floor with the other, while keeping my balance as the bus driver kept to the speed limit.
Unfortunately a dozen eggs got smashed. -
Just heard that some of the trolleys/baskets in supermarkets are very filthy. Have not been in shops for month but with all the fuss about virus I would think their would be super clean. How is your area?

We moved to be nearer our children and grandchildren but haven’t really had much contact since because of covid. Finally they can come and sit in the garden (from Monday). So even if we’re 6 foot apart we can now enjoy their company. And my granddaughter can at last have a go on the swing. She’s been patiently waiting for 3 months. Hurrah!

Question. A Nation of Shopkeepers
Who first used the phrase "A Nation of Shopkeepers"?
For a bonus, where did they first use it? -
Our press and media are achieving the impossible.
They are making Cummings the underdog.
He gave a diary account of his movements and motivation in a very controlled way yesterday.
This has been called a "story", "version of events", and Sky News reported he stopped his car for his son to "play in the woods" when actually the four year old wanted a pee!
The press are camped outside his house [all notably not observing social distance].
Now they are camped outside his father's farm, and ringing the bell to quiz his father.
Not impressed by anyone in this ongoing political power struggle. This discussion is now closed.

I NEED TO SPEAK TO THE ADMIN OF THIS GROUP!!!
🤬🤬🤬
CAN ADMINS OF THIS GROUP DO A BETTER JOB OF MONITORING WHO IS ALLOWED IN HERE PLEASE?!
THERE'S BEEN A NEW MEMBER WHO HAS BEEN PRIVATELY MESSAGING MEMBERS, SENDING THEM NAKED PICTURES OF HIMSELF IN NASTY POSES ALONG WITH CLOSE UPS OF HIS UNMENTIONABLES.
HE’S ALSO BEEN OFFERING AN IPHONE 11 PRO IN EXCHANGE FOR DEPRAVED SEXUAL FAVORS.
I AM ESPECIALLY BOTHERED BECAUSE IT TURNED OUT TO BE AN IPHONE 6 AND THE CAPS LOCK CAN'T BE SWITCHED OFF.
