‘False information’ reports not acted upon…

There has been dangerous disinformation and opinions posted on here recently. If I know the post to be false and/or dangerous, I report it, using the ‘contains false information’ option. However, nothing seems to come of it.
The fact that option exists surely means that SL, in theory, won’t tolerate false info, so why do my reports not get looked into?

      Notifications

Suddenly I've stopped getting any email notifications of new posts - haven't changed anything. Anyone else getting this problem or suggestions for how to rectify the problem please?

      Not getting any email notifications

Help needed, please. I usually get all Scooploop notifications via email throughout the day. For the past two days have received nothing and it's necessary to go into the 'bell' notification where I can see some of the postings but they are all over the place timewise (which is normal here) and I need to go into the one post left on email in order to access the bell notifications.

I have changed nothing in 'Settings' and have checked to make sure it is still 'daily'. I have posted this in Technical support (?) but it seems that takes a while and in the meantime getting nothing at all on tablet as I no longer have a Scooploop posting in emails so getting very frustrated with it all! Many thanks.

      Foreign and Business Loops (Edited)

There are well over 30 of these loops on SL, many of them "Locksmith" loops.
      Question ?
What purpose do all these loops. most with only 2 members serve on an indigenous social forum like SL ?

      Reactions

From someone who never posted, I am getting into my stride because of the new Carers loop.
However I am confused by the 'reactions' and 'like' facility buttons and need a simple explanation as to how it works. I have been too scared to just try as I don't want to inadvertently send the wrong message to anyone. Where can I find simple basic help on this please? Thank you

      A carer's loop group?

A recent conversation on Scooploop was concerning someone who felt they could not continue with their groups because of caring responsibilities for their wife.
This resonated with me as I am a carer for my husband and use reading comments on Scooploop as a relaxation for all the duties now falling on me.
I wonder if there are other carers in our community that might benefit from a Carer's loop?
I am not sure I have the time or competence to start this myself but am putting this out there as an idea.
Could it be helpful to share advice or just chat, knowing others understood the issues we face?
Perhaps responses to this might indicate if a separate loop could be helpful. Thank you for reading this.

      Changes

I notice that comments from people do not have the miles distance next to them anymore.
Also at the bottom of a thread there is no 'back to loop' option anymore.

      The Down vote

I have long been confused by this - and it appears I am not the only one. Is it for down-voting the poster or down-voting the context of the post. It seems that people use it for various reasons and not always the same. In the past I have used it because I'm unhappy about the context (therefore agreeing with the poster if they are too) then changed vote to something different as it looked as though I was anti the poster.

Would very much appreciate clarification on this. I think it can cause unpleasantness where not intended. At least with the anonymous down-vote one's feelings were clear whereas this can be very much either way. I personally feel it was a mistake getting rid of it (but keeping the anon. upvote) should be both or nothing, can't see the point otherwise.

Members lying, how can it be stopped.

Recently I have noticed an increase in a few members making false accusations about other Scooploop users. One has accused me of wanting to “beat him up” because I said I would like to meet him. I have personally met several members and every time we have enjoyed each other’s company.
Another member, Jenny Smith is being lied about and bullied by the same person who childishly refers to her as IT. .
This childish behaviour is not only bringing Scooploop in to disrepute but many, mostly females have now stopped posting.
My solution in attempting to make Scooploop the great site it was and should be is to suspend any member caught lying or bullying for one week for offence and double that every time they commit another misdemeanour.

A plea for less childish, aggressive and provocative behaviour on SL

There could be so much nice stuff on SL but even the most innocent threads are being derailed and it is killing the whole thing.

Political differences are one thing but must so many threads just become slanging matches? There isn’t any reason to call people you disagree with idiots, gibbons, buffoons, stupid, uninformed, witches, or anything else derogatory.

There’s certainly no place for threats of violence. And no place for abusive pms. Take it up with SL.

There’s also no point in referring to pms, however nasty in a thread, as no one can make any sense of what’s gone on.

Some posts are deliberately designed to provoke and are probably best ignored.

      A Thread

      To make Scooploop members aware.
Relatively recently, I reported three members to both a loop’s moderator and Scooploop Admin for their incessant misogyny towards me and the constant attacks on every post I submitted. Scooploop’s answer to the problem? “We give loop moderators autonomy over their loops, (yeah, that worked……..not) and if the problem isn’t resolved, we suggest you block the offending accounts”. I ended up having to block all three accounts.
I received a PM last night from a friend, with screenshots of comments obviously aimed at me from one of the accounts I’d blocked. I’m sure people will come to the same conclusion that I have, that the person has more than one account on Scooploop and makes scurrilous remarks knowing the person that blocked them won’t see them. How wrong he was. He didn’t take into account that people have friends on here that watch out for them.

      Ukraine Needs Your Support

This war in Ukraine will have catastrophic consequences and will bring suffering to millions of Ukrainians. More than 500,000 people have already fled Ukraine during the first week, and millions could follow who will have their homes destroyed. Note for loop mods: The difference between "removing" and "suspending" members

      Hello everyone.

There have been a couple of questions regarding the difference between "removing" and "suspending" loop members by loop moderators.

      To clarify the difference:

      - "suspending" a loop member can be reversed (by using "unsuspend user") , it is thought for loop members who violate loop guidelines but might be allowed to post in the loop in the future.

      - "removed" is forever. This should/can be used by moderators who want to remove a loop member who is involved in off-topic-spam or is so abusive you do not want to be bothered in the future. The "removed" status can not be reversed by loop mods.

We have - in rare cases - changed the "removed" status to "suspended" where it was used by mistake and mods have asked for help, but it's not something the SL Team does on a regular basis.

      Have a nice day.

Merry whatever to whomsoever wishes to accept it!

At this time of the year it’s difficult to know what to say without offending someone.

So I’ve checked with my legal adviser and on his advice I wish to say the following to all friends and colleagues.

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practised with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practise religious or secular traditions at all.
I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2022, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that Great Britain is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.
By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:
This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

      Private, Limited and Hidden loops

To have these loops on a public chat forum is extremely anti-social and against friendly integration and member relationship. The presence of these loops is offensive to most ordinary forum members.

The formation of a restricted topic specific loop is more than adequate. How the moderator then determines the valid interest level of an applicant to join is beyond belief.

I propose that Private and Hidden loops be discontinued and just retain Limited where the moderator can limit entrance to those applicants he/she feels justified. The loop heading would make it obvious what topic the loop deals with.

      Hello everyone

We would again like to thank you all for the offers to assist in moderating some of our local loops. It’s really great to see the support of our users & it is very much appreciated.

We would also like to point out that we expect, and require, all of our moderators to implement a neutral stance when moderating their loops. In addition to this an easygoing stance is also welcomed; meaning to not rush to block or suspend other users but instead to offer understanding and moderate consistently and fairly. If these conditions are not met we do reserve the right to remove moderator status.

Boris, Brexit, or bad timing? Why are we running out of stuff?

Nationwide fuel shortages have gripped the nation this past week and sent many of us on a frenzied drive-by search for a petrol station that isn’t closed.

Statements have been issued by certain suppliers, such as BP, saying; ‘There are no fuel shortages in the UK. However, due to panic buying a third of our stations are now left empty.’’ Although released to calm the nation it does raise the question as to how, if there are no shortages, we have ended up in this situation.

One suggested theory is that it may be caused by Boris Johnson’s extreme interpretation of Brexit: the introduction of hard trade barriers coupled with the restrictions now in place for European workers.

Another thought is that the current issues are an after-effect, following the global pandemic.

What is most likely is that a mixture of these two causes have resulted in our current shortages.

And these shortages are not only limited to fuel supplies; there have been supermarket shelves appearing emptier and energy prices soaring due to unusually low gas supplies. The spike in natural gas and electricity costs has been driven partly by a cold start to the year, with a chillier-than-average Spring. And soaring energy prices are also a problem across Europe. However it seems that the problem is most acute in the UK due to a lack of large natural gas storage facilities and delayed maintenance work.

What are your thoughts on the reasoning behind our current shortages? Are they simply unfortunately-timed and unrelated issues, or are they all owing to the same cause?

There`s been some talk of the Local Loop and the Business Directory. I`ve got into the habit of NOT going there so I did and found it interesting-there`s enough in my area unlike some.
BUT the search is all wrong. If I want to look up a business it`s very common that I have no idea which business,I only know what type- Gas Engineer, Plumber ect. So why isn`t there a search for business type? Seems obvious to me that people don`t always know what the business they are hoping to find might be called.

      Bumping (Edited)

My policy on bumping and in reply to Locigo's thread is this -

Deliberate Bumping is bad Forum practice and is not acceptable on normal threads.
I will never bump a thread.
Having said that it is easy to bump a thread by making an innocent comment, so any objection to bumping is simply peeing into the wind.

The exception are Polls, which must remain near the top of a Loop post list whilst active.
So for all Polls I create, if progressive posts place the Poll too far down the list, I WILL bump them.

      My Thoughts (Edited)

Below is a copy and paste of your comment in the thread “Labelling” yesterday in which you state you’d be happy to “hear” any of our thoughts. I would like to put forward a suggestion which in my mind requires serious thought by yourselves. Yesterday, a certain Scooploop member posted a libellous comment about me. It was a disgraceful stain on my integrity as a moderator of a limited group. I reported said comment to yourselves and after what seemed to me to be an unacceptable delay, you removed the post. I believe any user that posts outlandish libellous posts, should be immediately suspended from Scooploop and warned that further misdemeanours would mean expulsion.
I’m going to close this discussion with yourselves as I don’t want it to descend into a free for all.

Thank you for all of your thoughts. We always aim to moderate our groups fairly and on a case by case basis. We understand that 'labelling' can be found annoying, however it is also an extremely difficult issue to crack down on, as if we were to remove every term that can be linked to a person / group of people there would be much less content available on Scooploop!
We are always happy to hear any thoughts on how you believe this could be dealt with and what our user base would appreciate.

      Labelling

We appear to have an increasing number of members being "labelled" with no indication to whom it refers.
Can someone please tell me who is in the "clique", "gang", "those people", "witches", "undesirables" and now we have "his / her crowd".
To me we are nearly all strangers, have never met face to face and don't know anyone true personality or disabilities. So why the need for "labelling"?

I was asked in another thread "why would this forum put off new members". This could be one of the reasons as "labelling" appears to be on the increase in the open loops which includes the Scoop moderator loops.
