How lockdown can affect your state of mind
Please just be carefull because people are going crazy from being in lockdown. Actually I've just been talking about this with the microwave and toaster while drinking coffee and all of us agreed that things are getting bad. I didn't mention anything to the washing machine as she puts a different spin on everything and certainly not to the fridge as he is acting cold and distant right now. In the end the iron calmed me down as she said "everything will be fine, no situation too pressing".Have a good day and try to stay positive. 😋
Covid 19 claims a famous victim
RIP Eddie Large.
At the age of 78 he was already in hospital with a heart condition when the Corona Virus struck and he died a few days later.
Inspired by Jamie Oliver’s programme on making minestrone soup, I checked what was lurking in the cupboard and made some red lentil and tomato soup. The Best Before End date on the dried lentils was March 1997. A few years ago there was national publicity about a couple who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary by eating a fifty year old tin of whole jellied chicken. I can’t compete with that, but can anyone beat 23 years?
The sun is trying to get through and it feels a bit warmer now = saving on heating oil.
In the past heard a millionaire saying on subject of catastrophes "I have the money". Should we all start adopting a few "how to save". Tea bags can be used more than once. Just Google and there are some interesting answers.
Have a good day.
8pm clap for NHS workers again tonight - Thursdays!! (Edited)
Looks like they are doing this as a weekly thing now... my road was a bit sparse last week of people clapping ...Maybe a lot of people hadn’t heard about this then but perhaps they will now after it would’ve been shown on TV last Thursday.
Fed up with staying in due to Coronavirus (Edited)
Just ponder on this for a minute...
2020 - We just have to stay in for a couple of months.
WW II - You have to leave your loved ones and might never see them again.
2020 - But my kids need some fresh air so we're all going to the park.
WW II - Your kids have to be evacuated and live with random good samaritans for their safety.
2020 - I can only Facetime my family and friends I can't see them.
WW II - I have written letters, I'm hoping they're received and I get a response this year.
2020 - I am trying to order my food shop online, it's taking ages to get to me I need, alcohol, and all the other foods I'm craving.
WW II - Are you coming to queue-up in the line for our rations-potato soup every day of the week?
2020 - The government hasn't said we can't go out, they just said we can but only once to exercise so I'm going to go meet my friends and do what I want.
WW II - I'm not going out just in case a bomb drops so I will stay in listening to some music quietly because the air raid siren might go off.
2020 - Netflix needs to sort the streaming out I can't even watch a series without it crashing.
WW II - We are sitting in the dark around a candle playing cards keeping as much light in as possible so the warplanes don't see us from above.
2020 - Every man for themselves, so I'm going to stock-pile as much as I can because we are more important than anyone else, never mind the elderly that gave us this freedom.
WW II - I'm so grateful for this community, everyone is helping each other out when and where we can, we must stay strong.
This is the perspective that we should have, we don't know how LUCKY we have it and people still aren't listening.
Stay in, it really is that simple!

Earlier this evening on another thread relating to Covid-19. @FranW attempted to imply that Russia would be a good place to be as there were no reported cases of Coronavirus.
Unfortunately you could not have been more wrong! Russia has sixteen international borders including one with China extending for 4,209 Kms. To seriously believe that Coronavirus has not crossed any of the 22,293 Kms of land border and 1,236 Kms of sea border is akin to believing that everybody should ignore the rules laid down by the Government as social distancing will not save as many lives as herd immunity. I can't seriously take anything as fact from somebody who can look at a country with a population in excess of 146.7 million and states that there are no cases of Coronavirus.
At the weekend I spent an hour and a half talking (on a video call) to a Russian friend of mine who lives on the outskirts of Moscow. She and her family are in isolation!
Her mother, has been redeployed from her usual role as an ENT consultant and is helping with the Covid-19 cases which are rapidly filling the hospitals.
Today, the BBC are reporting: The Russian parliament has approved an “anti-virus” package of laws including up to seven years in prison for serious violations of quarantine rules. The official tally remains relatively low at 2,337 and 17 deaths. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-52109892
So quite where you got your information from, I have no idea.
Furthermore, the statement you aimed at me: "Governments never listen to 'reasoned arguments', thought you might realise that." Was actually a throw away line and as was explained by another person is an opinion of yours, not of mine and if you believe that Governments "never" listen to reasoned arguments, then you have serious issues which need to be addressed elsewhere, not on this forum.
Finally, I was shocked at the way you responded to @Vera2. I don't give a damn what political motivation you have, but you are an ignorant waste of space to insult her when she has just lost somebody she cared for, especially as she is concerned about the safety of everyone in this difficult time, and that includes you!
Care home residents being starved by Tesco
This was on BBC News today. A care home in Buxton with 25 residents usually would have a regular weekly delivery from Tesco. They spend around £1500 per week or £85k per year.
Last week they couldn't get a delivery slot. So they phoned Tesco to ask if they could be made a priority. Tesco said, they would be treated as a single household and were limited to 3 of any item.
The care home manager said to BBC News presenter Victoria Derbyshire, "How do I feed 25 people with 3 tins of baked beans and 3 bananas?"
Can you catch the Coronavirus twice?
Thank you for closing the post Clive.
I started the post and would have liked to end it.
I think the post has shown how one person can endanger the lives of many. You have to feel sorry for anyone who feels their 'civil liberty' and also does not believe in practising 'social distancing', are far more important than the lives of the rest of us.
Please Stay In and Stay Safe.

Good morning/afternoon inmates
Grey skies no sun here.On worldometers virus no new cases at the moment in UK. Same yesterday but changed in the afternoon.
We were warned decades ago about a "Super Bug" and had quite a few outbreaks (Flu/Ebola aso)Could we not have prepared better? If authorities would have put an emergency package together and invited people to buy one would you have done so?This reminds me of the gas mask. Would this have been suitable?
What have you been eating since the lockdown.. have your food habits changed since all this shopping situation.. Have you been making do on what you have in the house so making up recipes of your own.
Are you finding you are eating more because you’re at home all day or less maybe due to lack of food and what have you just eaten for lunch today?
Shops banned from sellling Hot Cross Buns during Lockdown
Shops have been told by Enforcement Officers that they cannot sell Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns as they are not essential.

Can you catch the coronavirus twice?
They don’t know?
This is worrying as many think they have had Coronavirus and after 7 to 14 days are OK and start going out again, mixing with family and friends.
Stay in and stay safe for the current 12 weeks isolation.

Usually a late to bed, late up I am up. Anybody up yet? Frosty morning and looked at my plum tree which is slowly dying but still has one big branch full of white blossoms. Victoria plums and delicious. With our strange weather pattern just hope we will get some fruit. If our country would be short of fruit in the Autumn this would be another disaster.
Looked at the coronavirus chart which did not look too bad but alas within one hour already steady increasing.

Forsythia looks lovely in the morning sun. Have a nice day.
I just signed the petition "Support self-employed people during coronavirus" and wanted to ask if you could add your name too.

Not sure if this will work for you all, but I'm loading it on my laptop this time. (Fingers crossed).
Anyone interested in previous generations.
Discovered lots of fibs and exaggeration when looking into personal family history many years ago.
Now's the opportunity to return to this hobby.
Would anyone recommend ancestry.co.uk or findmypast.co.uk, or any other on-line sources for info?
And have you found skeletons in cupboards?
The shops ran out of hand sanitiser gel ages ago but my local chemist had a hand sanitiser spray. The hand sanitiser gel I bought before had ethyl alcohol but the spray had isopropyl alcohol. Do any of you know if IPA is as effective as EA? The reason I ask is that I have about two litres of IPA in my workshop - I use it as a cleaning solvent to clean off sticky labels, clean fingerprints from CDs and DVDs, clean tape heads and so on.
Any idea what I could mix IPA with to make it more gel like? I'd need about two parts IPA to one part something else to get a suitable alcohol concentration.
Hope you are all well.
In the past you have seen me posting an appeal for "UN World Food Programme". As we all have time on our hands now I urge you all to take part. It is called free rice
http://www.gamesforchange.org/game/free-rice/
The categories encompass a total of 24 diverse subjects that can be played on 5 difficulty levels. (incl. languages) it starts easy but gets more difficult) I have played words, languages, landmarks
It was started October 7, 2007 and as of April 3, 2013, Freerice players had earned sufficient rice for over 10 million meals, assuming 2 meals per day.

"A plane with 5 passengers on board -- Donald Trump, Boris Johnson, Angela Merkel, the Pope and a 10-year-old schoolgirl -- is about to crash and there are only 4 parachutes. Trump says "I need one. I’m the smartest man in the USA and I'm needed to solve the pandemic!" He takes one parachute and jumps. Johnson says‘I’m needed to sort out the COVID-19 mess in Britain’. He takes one and jumps. The Pope says, "The world's Catholics depend on me for comfort in a time of fear." He takes one and jumps. "You can have the last parachute," Merkel says to the 10-year-old. "I've lived my life. Yours is only just starting." The little girl replies: "Don’t worry, there are 2 parachutes left, the smartest man in the USA just took my school bag."

Poem about the lockdown (Edited)
There was a really emotional poem read out on BBC Breakfast this morning, about the Corona Virus lockdown. But I can't find it on youtube.
It ended with the lines:
We are a United Kingdom We are a Kingdom United.
Let me say I'm sorry if some of you can't see this - there is a problem at the moment which is beyond my control.
These are exercises you should all be able to do at home. It may be a little difficult for some - but you can use bottles of hand gel instead! 😅
Good morning (afternoon) inmates
Sun is shining now, but we had a few snowflakes whirling about this morning. Just wondered if we can do some virus killing with our hairdryers. (heat)?
I'm in a virtual queue....there's over 110,000 in front of me. Probably get to order around midnight!
Anyone waiting in anticipation for the letter from Boris? Me neither.
I bet it includes the phrase 'right measures at the right time' that I'm so sick of hearing.
(Too little, too late, wrong priorities, springs to mind.)
It will tell us that things will get much worse before they get better. Is there anyone out there who still hasn't worked that out?
Despite my disdain for those morons ignoring the rules, I do resent the public being targeted for blame. It'll be all our own fault next!
I'd like to know what 'further measures' are planned. What exactly does complete lockdown mean? No leaving the house at all? How long for? If I knew, at least I could prepare for it.
This email is a little bit different to the ones I normally send. Right now Coronavirus is at the top of every news bulletin. But what’s not being talked about as much is the pressure this puts on our already overstretched NHS staff.
We might not be able to solve the crisis, but that doesn’t make us powerless. We can make sure that those who are putting themselves on the frontline to look after us know we appreciate it. It could give them a little reminder of hope to keep them going in the tough weeks ahead.
So, will you sign a massive thank you card to our incredible NHS staff who work day in day out to protect us, even when it’s overwhelming or scary? If thousands of us add our name - and share it all over social media - NHS staff will know just how valued they are.
Will you join me and add your name to the card today?

Let’s share a positive thing we notice in our lives each day
As so much doom and gloom about thought we could each pick out something we notice that we realise is a positive thing in our days while trapped at home.
My positive thought today was thank goodness I have a garden to get some air and to do some gardening regularly to keep moving and also to sit out in when the temperatures start to rise.
