I heard on LBC this morning that Hamas have at least 500,000 litres of fuel, hidden away!!, so why are their hospitals not using it??
-
It's never as many as they say
On much food packaging there is often a figure telling how many servings. I've never managed to make the food item last as long as they say.
Recently I bought Dorset Cereals porage. It said 7 serving. the box was finished after 5 breakfasts.. -

A tear jerker from the wonderful James Stewart
A Dog Named Beau by James Stewart (from Jimmy Stewart and His Poems) Crown Publishers, 1989
He never came to me when I would call
Unless I had a tennis ball,
Or he felt like it,
But mostly he didn’t come at all.
When he was young
He never learned to heel
Or sit or stay,
He did things his way.
Discipline was not his bag
But when you were with him things sure didn’t drag.
He’d dig up a rosebush just to spite me,
And when I’d grab him, he’d turn and bite me.
He bit lots of folks from day to day,
The delivery boy was his favorite prey.
The gas man wouldn’t read our meter,
He said we owned a real man-eater.
He set the house on fire
But the story’s long to tell.
Suffice to say that he survived
And the house survived as well.
On the evening walks, and Gloria took him,
He was always first out the door.
The old one and I brought up the rear
Because our bones were sore.
He would charge up the street with Mom hanging on,
What a beautiful pair they were!
And if it was still light and the tourists were out,
They created a bit of a stir.
But every once in a while, he would stop in his tracks
And with a frown on his face look around.
It was just to make sure that the old one was there
And would follow him where he was bound.
We are early-to-bedders at our house–
I guess I’m the first to retire.
And as I’d leave the room he’d look at me
And get up from his place by the fire.
He knew where the tennis balls were upstairs,
And I’d give him one for a while.
He would push it under the bed with his nose
And I’d fish it out with a smile.
And before very long
He’d tire of the ball
And be asleep in his corner
In no time at all.
And there were nights when I’d feel him
Climb upon our bed
And lie between us,
And I’d pat his head.
And there were nights when I’d feel his stare
And I’d wake up and he’d be sitting there
And I reach out my hand and stroke his hair.
And sometimes I’d feel him sigh
And I think I know the reason why.
He would wake up at night
And he would have this fear
Of the dark, of life, of lots of things,
And he’d be glad to have me near.
And Now he’s dead.
And there are nights when I think I feel him
Climb upon our bed and lie between us,
And I pat his head.
And there are nights when I think
I feel that stare
And I reach out my hand to stoke his hair,
But he’s not there.
Oh, how I wish that wasn’t so,
I’ll always love a dog named Beau.

A woman decided to give herself a big treat for her 70th birthday by staying overnight in a really nice hotel.. When she checked out the next morning, the desk clerk handed her a bill for $250.00.
She demanded to know why the charge was so high "I agree it's a nice hotel, but the rooms aren't worth $250..00 for just an overnight stay - I didn't even have breakfast!"
The clerk told her that $250.00 is the 'standard rate,' and breakfast had been included had she wanted it.
She insisted on speaking to the Manager. The Manager appeared and, forewarned by the desk clerk, announced: "This hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a huge conference center which are available for use."
"But I didn't use them."
'Well, they are here, and you could have." He went on to explain that she could also have seen one of the in-hotel shows for which they were so famous."We have the best entertainers from the world over performing here."
"But I didn't go to any of those shows.."
"Well, we have them, and you could have."
No matter what amenity the Manager mentioned, she replied, "But I didn't use it!" and the Manager countered with his standard response.
After several minutes discussion, and with the Manager still unmoved, she decided to pay, wrote a check and gave it to him. The Manager was surprised when he looked at the check.
"But Madam, this check is for only $50.00"
"That's correct I charged you $200.00 for sleeping with me."
"But I didn't!"
"Well, too bad, I was here, and you could have." 🤣 -

Printer Ink Cartridges - Printer Inactivity (Edited)
I don't use my HP inkjet printer very much and do a test print hopefully every 3-4 weeks.
I did a print the other day and the black did not print, the colour did print. I had gone just over a month.
After taking the black ink cartridge out of the printer, I cleaned the copper ink strip with a paper tissue, replaced it and the black then printed OK. Back to normal again.
Have you had this trouble with leaving your printer inactive for long periods ? -

Paypal Inactivity Fee (Edited)
PayPal is set to shake up its terms and conditions, levying a £12 charge on accounts it deems to be "inactive". In a move that will potentially affect thousands of users, accounts that haven't been used for a year or more will be subject to the annual fee, which will be automatically debited from the account balance.
The fee has now been reduced to £9 in the UK.
Customers who don't have money in their PayPal accounts won't be charged, no matter how long their accounts have sat dormant.
The inactivity fee isn’t charged in the US. -

Here are some facts culled from Andrew Neil’s piece in last Saturdays (7/10/23) Daily Mail.
While one may not subscribe to his views, experience has shown that he has a very good and reliable research team.
Most members are familiar with my pessimistic views on the future of Planet Earth, but even I was appalled at these facts.
FACT 1
Paul Johnson of the IFS, despite previous denials, now admits that the cost to the UK of going “green” will be £’s trillions, most of which will fall upon the poorest in our society.
FACT 2
France has ruled out the banning of gas boilers and will not commit to a date for ceasing to use fossil fuels.
FACT 3
Germany is recommissioning several coal fired generating plants and already has 7 out of 10 of the most polluting coal generating stations in the EU.
FACT 4
The UK is responsible for ONLY 1% of global Co2 emissions, a fact well known but worth repeating.
FACT 5
China, the world’s biggest polluter, and responsible for 32% of global Co2 emissions is giving planning permission for two new coal fired generating plants EVERY WEEK, and in 2022 approved a further 106GW of coal fired power capacity.
China now has 243GWs of coal fired power capacity (1 GW = 1 power plant) planned or under construction.
FACT 6
India, the second largest polluter, is also building more coal fired power plants.
FACT 7
America, which has the third largest coal-fired generating capacity, if it were to close it all down now that capacity would soon be entirely replaced by China.
FACT 8
Also building new coal fired generating plants are, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan, Philippines, S. Korea, and Vietnam.
FACT 9
The Asia- Pacific now accounts 80% of global coal demand.
QUESTION.
Can any member please explain to me how it makes any sense for the costs of the present policy, that are being passed on to the hard pressed tax payer, for a global reduction of Co2 that is insignificant.
Consider that were the banning of gas boilers to be in place now, and that your present boiler needed replacement it would cost you about £2,000 for a similar appliance but £20,000 for a heat pump.
Surely it is time to put the present policy on hold until better financial conditions apply. -
