Nineteen female medical students who were banned from attending university in Afghanistan arrived in Scotland on Wednesday to complete their studies.

The women were forced to give up their education when the Taliban took control of the country three years ago and rolled back women’s rights.

However, the Linda Norgrove Foundation – a charity set up by the parents of Scottish charity worker, Linda Norgrove, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2010 – arranged a safe passage and student visas for the women so they could complete their studies.

“We endured 1,000 days of suffering to reach this point, 1,000 days of being confined to our homes, of having our voices silenced with nothing but tears and sorrow, our lives wasting away,” said Omulbanin Sultani, one of the students. “When we heard about the visa approval, we were so excited I felt like I was flying. We are going from hell to paradise.”

When I don't answer my mobile (either because I can't find it,(!) or don't recognise the caller), I am getting a strange message. It sounds as if someone is making a call for help, someone else interjects with "Who are you calling?", and then it cuts off. This happens in exactly the same way, whether I know the original caller or not, and even when I phone from my landline to find my phone, there is the same message, as of course I don't pick it up to answer it!
How can I get rid of it? I know it's a scam of some kind, and is itt stopping genuine callers from leaving a message.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Do you still pay VAT if the trader is not VAT Registered? I've tried looking it up but still totally confused as usual. Invoice in question is for replacement d/g window but there is no VAT number on the (hand-written) invoice. Received the original quote detailing cost of unit and labour and then I asked is that the total cost, and was told no, VAT is added. Which never fails to annoy me, I need the total cost but that is beside the point. Thanks.
