Titanic Remembrance Day is observed every year on April 15. Did you know that the R.M.S. Titanic ship had four hull compartments that could be flooded without causing a critical loss of buoyancy, and was, thus, considered unsinkable? The day is set aside to remember the victims and survivors of the unfortunate sinking of the ship and reflect on how the world jointly responded to a heartbreaking disaster.
110th Anniversary today. -

Promising news from the Black Sea
I'd just come across this delightful new twist to the Snake Island story when the BBC reported that Ukraine has apparently done potentially fatal damage to that same Russian warship - the Moskva, which is the flagship of Putin's Black Sea fleet - with a couple of missiles.
"Up yours, Russian warship" (or however you like to translate the defiant Ukrainian's original comment) has now taken on a new meaning.

Hopefully my last posting about Covid-19
unless I get triggered. Going to try to be reasonable so this doesn't become another flame war. So here goes.
I think everybody up to retirement age and even some older folk, who are generally healthy with no life affecting medical conditons, should be living life as they were before the first signs of "this new Corona virus" was mentioned. No face masks, no enforced distancing or restriction on people in a room. If they catch Covid, 99% will get over it in a few weeks at most.
Elderly people who are frail, and those in care homes and hospitals should still take precautions by wearing a face mask and keeping to the social distance. Also those visiting them should wear a face masks
We shouldn't even be considering going back to mandatory mask wearing in shops and public buildings for everyone. If we did that, for what is now a virus milder than Flu, it would be never ending.
Even the wearing of masks that I agree with is just to make the older people feel safe as all the evidence is that they make no difference to whether you will catch Covid. This discussion is now closed.

Clean the shower with a dishwasher tablet
I found this on the web -
This tip comes from a mom in Australia who has combined two common products to develop her own great cleaning method. All you need is a white wonder sponge (Magic Eraser) and a dishwasher tablet. Measure the size of the tablet and hollow out a part of the sponge so that the tablet fits exactly in the sponge. Moisten the modified cleaning sponge and rub it over the glass shower enclosure or shower curtain. Rinse with warm water and, voilà… you have a radiant bathroom!
Before you start cleaning, it is recommended you wear rubber gloves to protect your hands. A dishwasher tablet is more powerful than you may think! -

Is it really fair to ban Russian sportspeople?
Simply because they are Russian?
The F1 driver, Mazepin, has been sacked by his team Haas.
The tennis player, Danil Medvedev, has been banned from Wimbledon, even though at the Australian Open he wrote on the camera lens, "Stop the war".
Now a 15 year old child has been banned from the Go-karting championship simply for being Russian.
When will it end? Will the Russian pro dancers on Strictly be next? -

NHS boss calls for two Covid rules to be brought back to avoid Easter surge
Top chiefs within the NHS have called for a return of face masks and a limit on indoor mixing to avoid an overwhelming spike of coronavirus infections over Easter as infections hit a record high. The NHS Confederation, which describes itself as The NHS Confederation "the membership organisation that brings together, supports and speaks for the whole healthcare system in England, Wales and Northern Ireland", has urged for the public to take "mitigating actions".

Change to credit card security system for online purchases
I've just tried unsuccessfully to order groceries because my Sainsburys Bank credit card has introduced a new complication to the payment process - without notifying me first.
Now one has to put in a security code as part of the payment process and that code is sent to one's mobile number - but that's not the number that they have registered on my account. I didn't have a mobile 'phone when I obtained this card (yes, it's that old), so the only telephone number registered on the account is my landline. They think it's a mobile number but of course it isn't, so I can't be sent a security code at all.
One cannot change one's registered mobile number online; only by telephone and - as they don't bother to put on the notice about that problem - only during their limited banking hours. So the customer goes through the entire credit card identification process, only to be told to call back tomorrow when the bank re-opens.
And of course one can't hold onto a delivery slot overnight without being able to pay for the groceries....
All that trouble could so easily have been saved by notifying customers in advance of introducing this complication, giving us time to ensure that we had registered a current mobile number on our credit card accounts. -
British men helping Ukrainian refugees
Heard llast night about an online forum on which single British men are offering accommodation to single female Ukrainians.
One even posted a reassuring message, "I promise I am not a sex maniac".

This is why the Covid numbers are increasing
And it's designed to scare people, I think.
It's all the new symptoms that have been added.
Now anyone with a headache or feeling a bit tired can be diagnosed with Covid. It really is no longer a serious disease for most peopleThis discussion is now closed.

Mask wearing madness at my dentist today (Edited)
Arrived at the dentist to see a note on the door, "as we are a healthcare service, facemasks must be worn etc". I didn't have a mask with me as I wasn't told I needed to wear one when I booked the appointment or when the receptionist phoned me yesterday to confirm I was still coming. I thought they were optional personal choice everywhere now.
Walked in unmasked and receptionist said, "do you have a mask to put on?". When I said no, she gave me one to put on. Then she gave me a clipboard and form to fill in to update my details, so I had to take the mask off to fill that in. Handed it back to reception and put my borrowed mask back on. Then got called up to the dentist's torture chamber, I mean room, where I had to take my mask off.
Then my mask stayed off for the rest of my visit, including going back to reception to pay and book the next appointment, and back into the waiting area to pick up my coat. -
I tripped and fell yesterday, at the bus stop, opposite Sainburys, Tooting Broadway, when I arrived home, I realised my wedding ring had come off. Long shot, I know, but sentimental!!, it is a puzzle ring but has been soldered closed. Reward offered!!

E consult palaver (Edited)
Due to a stupid mix up at my GP over a repeat request they told me the only way to resolve this issue was to request an E consult.
What a fiasco that was ... they want a photo of an ID, but i don't have a passport or a drivers licence, and then upload a phot of my face.
Alternatively you have to send 3 different codes from your GP registration, tried that but GP said I can only speak about this from 9am until 12 - so have to leave it until Monday. -

Name what annoys you with modern life at the moment. Only two things at a time.
I'll start. Cyclists and electric scooters being ridden on the pavement, really irritates me. Being left hanging on the phone because "We are experiencing high levels of calls" winds me up.This discussion is now closed.

This is why covid is NOT just like a cold
When people post on SL about their concern re covid there’s at least four people who regularly belittle their fears. They argue that: it’s nothing more than a cold- they’re all ill with something else - people should just get on with their lives - there’s no point in testing, - the figures are all deliberately inflated to scare us. In effect they are suggesting that those of us who have concerns are either stupid, or sheep. But the latest figures quoted widely should concern us all. The prevalence is higher than ever, hospital admissions are sky rocketing and the deaths are creeping ever upwards.

The Covid positive test figures are false
According to Professor Karol Sikora the numbers quoted by the MSM of how many positive Covid tests each day are wildly above the true figure.
This is because the ONS can only take a small sample of tests then extrapolate the results. Then they add about 50% to the positives to make Covid seem worse than it is.
