The week in pictures (Edited)
I feel there’s a few they missed but these are the most striking!
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-67518879 -
Has anybody had experience with these ?
Do they work ? Is the response good and help quick to arrive ?
They look an expensive proposition. Prices vary a lot, but an annual cost of £200-£300 is a general average with a set-up cost of £40-£60. Then their seems to be a problem with digital telephone supply as against traditional analogue. A digital pendant is much more costly.
The alarm results in the team phoning your chosen contact or the emergency services, that is all.
1. Your contact may not often be available, at work, on holiday etc.
2. The emergency services could take 2-3 hours or more to arrive.
3. Is the talk volume adequate to hear ?
Meanwhile you are left laying on the floor, possibly in pain.
£260-£360 is a very expensive telephone call indeed.
It seems to me easier and infinitely more inexpensive and convenient to simply carry your mobile phone around with you in a pocket.

Seen on my local Forum, good advice
"Just a little warning regarding the Xmas treat many stores are now starting to stock for dogs at Xmas.
Many of these so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas.
The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China.
The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell.
Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes.
On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.
If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking.
The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.
Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then dispatch in the bin!!"
Always check where made, if China or Any Far Eastern take great care. Only buy from manufactures you know and from respected Pet Stores, and check ingredients, if shown. If not shown then do not buy. -

Time again to start trawling through the comparison sites. Has anyone any experience of Aviva, quote £351 compared to my renewal quote of £510, seems much the same plus a bit more. Only thing worrying for me is no customer support, everything is done online except
'Dedicated UK accident and claims line - Make new claims online or via Phone 24/7'
Which I suppose is all that matters and hopefully won't need to use. Plus my little banger is hardly top of the range with estimated value of £900 - if lucky. -

What has the Government announced?
While the Government has not yet responded to the petition you signed, it has announced plans to ban XL Bully type dogs, and set out the rules that will apply to these dogs.
Under the new rules, which will come into force on 31 December 2023, it will be illegal to breed, sell, advertise, exchange, gift, rehome, abandon or allow XL Bully dogs to stray in England and Wales. From this date, these dogs must be kept on a lead and muzzled in public. From 1 February 2024 it will then become illegal to own an XL Bully dog if it is not registered on the Index of Exempted Dogs. -
