Current Affairs and Politics group (Edited)
And why it has failed miserably despite the ludicrous aspirations of its Administrator?
The bold heading "Have Your Say" Is completely Inaccurate and should be removed.
It is no more than an echo chamber of one view and opinion, all singing from the same song sheet, not a discussion group at all.
With very few members participating it is an extremely boring construct shown by how few members comment on the posts.
It has become no more than a bolt hole for those few members to gossip and talk about other members behind their backs.
Not only should the heading "Have Your Say" be removed but also the incompetent and useless administrator. You only have to look at the difference between the politics group and anything to see how much the posts on their generate and the difference between the experienced and none biased Clive and the out of his depth Brian. It was bad enough with Alan but now it has hit rock bottom and can not be saved. About time it was put out of its misery. This discussion is now closed.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2024/oct/01/paul-and-jack-were-murdered-by-their-abusive-father-why-had-the-family-courts-granted-him-contact This is enraging. Why do the authorities not listen to the mothers and children? There may be a few mothers who are making false claims either for revenge on partners who have simply left or they just donโt want to see them in connection with child contact, but I think this is probably very rare. Male violence against women sadly isnโt.

A man who was jailed in 2014 for overstaying his visa, forging a right to work document and claiming ยฃ50k in benefits was given a job processing universal credit claims.
He said he did nothing wrong as the DBS said he didn't have to declare anything older than 5 years.
This isn't always true. If a conviction leads to a jail sentence it should show up on a DBS no matter how long ago.The fact that he didn't declare it shouldn't have stopped the police from including it, so the fact it came back clear is worrying!
He has now been dismissed for a reason unrelated to this apparently -

The payments regulator has just slashed the new mandatory reimbursement limit for fraud victims that would have forced banks to provide better protections.
In a disgraceful move, the regulator has dramatically watered down vital new rules for firms to reimburse scam victims - slashing the limit from a proposed ยฃ415,000 to just ยฃ85,000. This comes just weeks before the new safeguards were due to come into effect.
It is outrageous that the regulator is siding with fraud enablers in the payments industry at the expense of scam victims. This is a complete betrayal of scam victims and caves to months of lobbying from firms that refuse to take fraud seriously. Victims of high-value fraud, including house purchases, stand to have their lives destroyed by this screeching U-turn.
Our director of policy and advocacy Rocio Concha, said:
โThis decision puts all of us at greater risk of being targeted by criminals because it reduces the incentives for banks and payments firms to take fraud prevention seriously.โ -

How the (bleep) do the do-gooders make up these numbers?
In today's I paper there's an article about gambling adverts during televised football matches. The match with the most was West Ham v Aston Villa. They claim there were 6,491 logos or adverts during the match which equates to 30 per minute.
How are they creating those figures because when the match is being played the most gambling logos you can see is three. One on the Villa shirts, one on the West Ham shirts, and one on the hoardings. Or did someone pause the tv every minute and count each individual player visible facing the camera.

People aged between 55-74 will receive letters inviting them to take part in the programme. Details below.

Starmer has been dealt another blow after Labour members at the partyโs conference voted in favour of a motion calling for ministers to reverse their cut to the winter fuel allowance.
A motion put forward by Unite at the partyโs conference in Liverpool has been overwhelmingly backed by members, which will cause further blushes for Sir Keir.
While there is nothing binding about the vote, it puts further pressure on the Labour leadership over its controversial decision to remove the benefit.
The motion passed by a show of hands on what is the last day of the Labour Party conference in Liverpool. -

The Good the Bad and 25 years of rescuing cats!
Has very likely changed my life big timeโฆ
Never ending as not one day without being asked for the impossible. To help more in need of help by private individuals and other rescues.
Like other rescues I lack more space, more money and more time. I learnt a lot during those 25 years about cats and about people. I always made myself busy reading much about nutrition for pets and finding out the outcome of poor quality food. I experimented with various cat food over the years and also water of different ph . I encountered some amazing kind people the last 25 years some I remained friend with. But of course also some not so kind people i felt sorry for. I always feel sorry for people who abuse others, as no doubt they would be happier if they were kind!
Sadly ongoing Long Covid has slowed me down and often made me feel as if 100 years old the last few years.
Rarely reporting on my cat rescue activities as i need to use my time to get on with helping kitties and no time for chit chat! Also at long last moving on useless possessions into skip after skip.
Some of the cats are on waiting lists of rescues that offer vast and safe outdoor space without any neighboursโฆ
Thanks again to those of you who have helped me help kitties in need in different ways.
Do not take on kitties unless you can offer them a kind forever home please or foster as long as you intend to return the cat! -
