This evening, a shocking BBC Panorama investigation will lay bare the stories of Revolut bank customers who say scammers took tens of thousands of pounds from their accounts and that Britain’s newest bank failed to protect them.*
This comes just weeks after the payments regulator slashed reimbursement limits for scam victims by £330,000, in response to intense lobbying from payment firms and banks.
None of us fall victim to scams because we’re intentionally careless, but because we’re ruthlessly manipulated by the increasingly sophisticated tactics of organised criminals. The explosive findings of tonight’s investigation hammer home a grim reality: without sufficient financial incentives for banks and payment firms to improve fraud security, we may all be at risk.
Get the full story on BBC One at 8pm tonight. -

I hope the Ukrainians now do the same.

Alex Salmond collapses
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/31040510/alex-salmond-dies-aged-69/ -
Former Tarrant County Judge Glenn Whitley — a life-long member of the Republican Party who served from 2007 to 2022 — has been one of Texas’ most prominent Republicans.
And as the November elections approach, he sounded a warning: He is voting for Vice President Kamala Harris over former president Donald Trump, and while he’s announcing his break with the party publicly, he believes many Republicans will vote for Harris in secret.
“There are a lot, I think,” Whitley said. “They’re afraid to come out, because when they do, they get ridiculed and they get bullied and they get belittled. And so a lot of people who have been staunch Republicans and still are staunch Republicans, are afraid to stand up and be confrontational with some of the leaders that we have right now.
“It’s going to be close, but I truly believe that that a lot of Republicans are going to go into that booth and say, ‘I can’t support the insurrection.’ ... I have talked with a number of people who I believe will do that, and they may not openly come out and say, ‘I’m voting for Harris,’ or they may just not vote.”
When it comes to Trump, there are a lot of reasons for Republicans to reject him, but also good reasons to vote for Harris, Whitley said. While Trump holds a four-point lead in the latest Texas polls, Harris is leading in most battleground states, but many polls are within the margin of error.
“Trump has constantly belittled and, you know, bullied people,” Whitley said. “He’s disrespected our military and our vets, he was convicted of paying hush money to a porn star. And then the thing that broke the camel’s back for me was the insurrection on Jan. 6.
“And so that’s the reason I wouldn’t vote for Trump, but the reason that I will support and vote for Harris is the fact that I do believe she wants to lift people up.”
Like it or not, this election is more important than our recent change of government. -

On the Al Jazeera news channel all this week they are running a series during their Newshour called Gaza - One Year On. Each night from a different perspective.
Last night they looked at how some of the false Israeli propaganda about the events of October 7th 2023 have been debunked.
The propaganda. Babies were beheaded. The truth. There is no evidence of any babies being beheaded.
The propaganda. Women were raped during the attack by Hamas. The truth. There is no evidence of any rapes during the attack.
The propaganda. All hospitals also double up as Hamas military bases. The truth. There is no evidence that Hamas are based in hospitals. The films that the IDF showed of tunnels and secret rooms under a hospital were made using AI. The IDF commander pointing at Hamas instructions on the wall, was actually pointing at a calendar.
https://www.aljazeera.com/tag/israel-palestine-conflict/
I think Netanyahu's big mistake was making his number one priority to fight Hamas and forget the hostages. He should've put every effort, and those around him, into negotiating the release of all the hostages. Even if it meant releasing every jailed Palestinian. Only then should the military option be used.
He will be making a big mistake if he decides on a full scale war against Hezbollah. According to Al Jazeera's middle east military expert, Hezbollah have at least 150,000 rockets compared to the few thousand owned by Hamas. Also their fighters have had full military training. -
A survey by the Independent Schools Council reveals that, at September, the number of pupils in independent schools has already fallen by 10,540 against September 2023 based on data obtained from 1,185 schools out of 2,600 schools based in the UK. Schools with the lowest fees and those with less than 300 pupils showing the biggest loss.
Now since the average annual fee is £16,000 p.a. the total VAT that would have been raised on the lost fees is £33.728 million, ( 10,540 X £3,200). The ISC calculate that the cost to the Education Dept. to be £92.8 million
Please, could any of the group’s left-wing supporters explain to me how, in an attempt to raise VAT of £33.728 million by incurring a cost of £92.8 million makes any sense. Bear in mind this is BEFORE the tax is applied.
This is government in total disarray led by Starmer who was educated privately through a bursary. Talk about “I’m all right Jack, sod you. -

Baby Loss Certificates (Edited)
From today baby loss certificates will be available to anyone who has lost a baby before 24 weeks of gestation. This has been available from February but only for the last few years, now it will be available for any date in the past.
Babies before 24 weeks who die were not previously ‘recognised’ with a birth or death certificate. So there was nothing within a family to acknowledge the babies existence .

On 'BBC Breakfast' this morning...
... Tim Moffett covered a story about two fathers, from either side of the Israeli / Gaza border, who, over time, had each lost a daughter during the conflict. One in 1997, the other in 2007. Both events were very sad, but perhaps helpful in the search for peace.
I have tried to find a link to put up here, unfortunately there doesn't currently appear to be one.
However the report's primary objective was to demonstrate how, despite the tragic events that resulted in the loss of their children, these two families have since found a sense of unity, camaraderie and commonality in their desire to ensure that the deceased loved ones could contribute to peace and not exacerbate the antagonism between the two sides.
I have attached a link to a YouTube video made by NBC 10 months ago on their version of the same subject:

Johnnie Walker told listeners on Radio 2 that he will retire at the end of October
Johnnie Walker, currently a DJ on Radio 2, who became well known during his time at Radio Caroline followed by Radio 1, announced to his listeners this afternoon, that he will be retiring at the end of October.
Johnnie has been bravely broadcasting his Sunday afternoon show, Sounds of the 70s, whilst seriously ill with pulmonary fibrosis. Over time his condition has worsened and he has now decided to bring his career to a close.
I thought he was a great DJ in his "Caroline" years and have always enjoyed listening to his unique voice and hearing his knowledgeable comments.
Thank you Johnnie, I wish you well in your retirement, which I hope is as long and comfortable as you deserve. -
