Kelloggs are taking the government to court because of their directive to make shops put high sugar products in less prominent locations.
Kelloggs are arguing that their cereals have been listed at high sugar because they have only been measured as a dry cereal. When in reality they are eaten with milk making them a healthy option. This discussion is now closed.

More news for those with long Covid
The five HealthWatches in north central London (Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington) have surveyed long Covid sufferers seeking medical help. Their experiences weren't positive but let's hope that this evidence might help to change that in future.

Rupert Murdoch's news channel launched last night as a direct rival to GB News. I've been dipping in and out last night and today and every programme is the same. A middle aged man in a suit presenting, talking to another middle aged man in a suit about something in the news. The exception is the Julia Hartley-Brewer show but only because she is female, and Piers Morgan will possibly be worth a watch.
I think GB News has a better variety of shows and more involvement of guests being able to voice an opinion.
I did notice two GB News panellists have defected to TalkTV; Daisy McAndrew and Esther Krakue.
But it is only day one so it might improve and become just as popular as it's rival -
I just caught the end of Your and Yours on car radio this morning when the subject was obviously cash or cashless. I appreciate I am vintage but two things stood out. A retired gentleman in Bournemouth who said he was quite happy using his smart phone for parking, didn't worry him that without one some couldn't park there, only annoyance was it cost £1.10 instead of £1 but that was fine, he found it very simple. Then mentioned going to the beach with his grandson and buying him an ice-cream - before him in the queue I gather were two youngsters clutching the cash who were refused an ice cream as the place didn't take cash. Being the magnanimous kind-hearted pensioner that he was, he bought them for the kids - as mother didn't have much English so he could understand her problem. He absolutely saw nothing wrong with the whole system that cash is becoming unacceptable - just as well they couldn't hear me shouting at the radio telling him what a snobbish patronising person he was.
Also a lady doing voluntary work for a small animal charity saying that when she goes to collect the boxes, they now have very little in them as nobody carries cash anymore. Then she went on to say that they make a profit by holding events where there are tea and cake stalls, etc. which were largely going unsold as nobody carried cash. Was even asked if they took cards by some.
A Travel man did say be sure to take some cash when abroad as they are still living normal lives where cash is acceptable (my words). This discussion is now closed.

Where can I get offcuts of hardwood suitable for a lathe? (Edited)
I've just bought a small woodturning lathe and I'm looking for some chunks of suitable wood for turning.
Softwood such as pine isn't ideal so I'm looking for harder woods.
Pieces roughly 15cm or longer and 5cm square/round or larger. The sizes and shapes aren't critical, but the wood needs to be free of cracks, nails and so on.
If I buy this new it costs an arm and a leg, so I'm looking for offcuts.
I've tried Champions, Homebase and BandQ but without luck.
Can any of you suggest a suitable place to obtain hardwood offcuts somewhere within a reasonable distance of Epsom?
Or alternatively do any of you in my neck of the woods have bits of hardwood cluttering up your shed which you'd like to get rid of? -
Actual black person accused of wearing "blackface"
A DJ was booked for an event at an Arizona high school. When the schools diversity and inclusion committee saw photos of the DJ they immediately accused him of "blackface".
The DJ responded saying, "it's not blackface, I am actually black"
Instead of admitting their mistake, they still accused him of blackface because he was making himself look more black than he should be. For instance a big afro hairstyle. -
Help for some long Covid sufferers (Edited)
Long Covid support groups contain endless discussions about which supplements people are taking, based more on word of mouth and desperate hope than any scientific reasoning.
But a Cambridge research study that I read about recently has produced scientifically-focused supplements, with some clear beneficial effects.
What I found most notable, though, is that my breakfast already includes almost all the food elements that they've named, which may help to explain why even two bouts of Covid-19 apparently didn't leave me with nearly such bad after-effects as affect many others. I'll just have to add pomegranates to my regular diet, in case that helps significantly.

Ofgem warns energy suppliers against abusing customer direct debits
I finally managed to write an e-letter to my own new supplier about the enormous proposed hike in DD payments that they wanted me to make for the next nine months.
Tackling that somewhat slowly gave me the benefit of citing Ofgem's recent warning to suppliers, not to abuse our DDs. (Apparently it took the form of a 12-page letter, so this brief BBC news report is probably much easier reading!) Ofgem's chief executive had even made a guest appearance on Radio Four's 'Today' programme to help publicise this very welcome initiative. If only all regulators were so pro-active in defending consumer rights....

A Priest was being honored at his retirement dinner after 25 years in the parish.
A leading local politician and member of the congregation was chosen to make the presentation and to give a little speech at the dinner.
However he was delayed, so the Priest decided to say his own few words while they waited:
“I got my first impression of the parish from the first confession I heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place.
The very first person who entered my confessional told me he had stolen a television set and, when questioned by the police, was able to lie his way out of it.
He had stolen money from his parents; embezzled from his employer;
had an affair with his boss’ wife; had sex with his boss’ 17 year old daughter on numerous occasions, taken illegal drugs;
had several homosexual affairs; was arrested several times for public nudity and gave VD to his sister-in-law.
I was appalled that one person could do so many awful things…
But as the days went on I learned that my people were not all like that and I had, indeed, come to a fine parish full of good and loving people.”
Just as the Priest finished his talk the politician arrived full of apologies at being late.
He immediately began to make the presentation and gave his talk:
“I’ll never forget the first day our parish Priest arrived” said the politician. “In fact I had the honour of being the first person to go to him for confession.”

During a Physics course at University, many years ago, the professor thought to give his students the following assignment to answer: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?
Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.
One student, however, wrote the following.
“First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different Religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added. This gives two possibilities: if Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over. So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that "it will be a cold day in Hell before I go out with you", and take into account the fact that I went out with her last night, then number 2 must be true. Thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic, and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls, and is therefore extinct... leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being. Which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."”
