Friend request from a complete stranger
I've just had this person asking to be my friend on this site:
catayip782 @catayip782
Sudagala , Sri Lanka - joined quite recently
I've never heard of them; has anyone else heard of them or had a similar request?
I wanted to block this person, since the request didn't inspire confidence (just the reverse) but there's no option to do so on the basis of their being strangers or seeming untrustworthy. Am I alone in thinking that we should be able to block on such bases? -
Bananas are among the world's most popular fruit.
Bananas are also fairly nutritious, and contain high amounts of fibre and antioxidants.
Over 90% of the calories in bananas come from carbs. As the banana ripens, the starch in it turns into sugar. For this reason, unripe (green) bananas are high in starch and resistant starch, while ripe (yellow) bananas contain mostly sugar. A medium-sized (118 grams) banana contains about 105 calories.
The greener the banana is, the greater the content of resistant starch.
Resistant starch has been linked to several health benefits :
Bananas are a good source of several nutrients, including potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C and fibre. They also contain various antioxidants and plant compounds.
Bananas are high in fibre. Unripe bananas are also rich in resistant starch and pectin, which can provide numerous health benefits.
Taking 24 grams of banana starch each day for 4 weeks caused a weight loss of 2.6 lbs (1.2 kg), while also improving insulin sensitivity in patients studied.
Bananas are high in potassium, which helps to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease.
Bananas are a good source of magnesium, a mineral that plays hundreds of roles in the body. Magnesium may protect against heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
Unripe, green bananas are rich in resistant starch and pectin, which may promote digestive health and reduce the risk of colon cancer.
Eating a moderate amount of bananas should not raise blood sugar levels significantly. However, diabetics should be careful with fully ripe bananas.
Bananas don't seem to have any known negative health effects, but they may cause allergic reactions in some individuals with latex allergy.
Although bananas are unsuitable on a low-carb diet and may cause problems for some diabetics, overall they are an incredibly healthy food. -

Tensions have built between Russia and Ukraine to the point of Americans and Britons being told to leave Ukraine whilst they can. Joe Biden has promised "that further Russian aggression would be met with a resolute, massive, and united Transatlantic response."

Hope link works (Edited)
After being repeatedly raped by two relatives, Marรญa was forced into becoming a mom to avoid jail. She was 12. Sadly, she is not the only one.
In Maria's country, Honduras, hundreds of cases of sexual assault targeting children are reported every year and rape victims are denied the most fundamental reproductive rights.
But there is HOPE.
The first-ever female President, Xiomara Castro, was just sworn in with a mandate that could save millions of women from suffering and abuse. For instance, legalizing emergency contraception! But she is already under pressure from her own party to give up!
And here is where we come in -- Honduran politicians are not used to capturing global attention. And if we deliver a 1 million strong petition backing the President's agenda to protect women's rights, we can strengthen the fight of local women's groups and push her to act. Join now and share widely:

From today you no longer have to take any covid tests when coming home from holidays.
You do still have to follow the rules of different counries you visit.
Spains rules are changing again on Monday. Anyone aged 12-17 has to show a negative PCR. Adults have to be fully vaccinated within 270 days, otherwise they have to have the booster jab. -

Some bad news, not been feeling my best over the last few days I just wanted to let everyone know that I have been admitted into hospital and they are keeping me in. I have only gone and poisoned myself. What I thought was an onion turned out to be a daffodil bulb. They said I should be out some time in the spring.

Surely the last thing that the Met Police needs is to lose its female commissioner?
The political boys' club has succeeded in forcing Cressida Dick to step down as commissioner, blast them.
It's not as if many ideal potential female replacements were available. How on earth could any male replacement possibly engender more public confidence after all these revelations of misogynistic police officers' appalling antics?

Transferred energy customers getting initial bills etc
When Pure Planet failed, its customers were automatically transferred to another supplier and Shell Energy got the job. It took them months to issue me a first bill but at least all the credit on my PP account seems to have (just) exceeded what they've now charged for that period.
But the cheeky beggars blandly asked me to pay another ยฃ10 a month, which I'm not going to do. SE may not have direct access to the Shell group's massive profits from generating and selling energy to consumers but their cashflow has to be much healthier than any individual customer's.
How have other transferees found their new suppliers' attitudes? -

Witnessed something pretty disgusting today. There was one of the light blue masks lying by the kerb, in the road. A man probably aged 60 picked it up and put it in his coat pocket. I guessed he was going to put it in the nearby waste bin but he walked past it. Instead as he got to the entrance to Sainsburys, he took the mask out of his pocket and started to wear it.
How disgusting is that? -

Premier League star Kurt Zouma could face an RSPCA probe after video (pictured left and right: Screengrabs of the footage) emerged of the footballer kicking and slapping a Bengal cat - as hundreds have now signed a petition calling for the charity to take action. The shocking footage shows the West Ham defender, 27, laughing as he chases the cat around his ยฃ2million London home. They video was taken on Sunday - the day after he appeared for the club in their FA Cup victory over non-league Kidderminster Harriers. Today the RSPCA, which has the power to prosecute in animal welfare cases, has commented on the footage, describing it as 'very upsetting'. And bosses at the charity told MailOnline they could launch an investigation, if a complaint is made. The RSPCA, whose prosecutions carry a maximum sentence of five-years in prison for the most serious of offences, did not reveal if any complaints had yet been made. However social media users have already flooded Twitter with complaints about the video, urging the RSPCA to take action.

Is anyone here suffering from long Covid?
Someone posted a link on my neighbourhood association's Facebook page to a very useful tool which should help sufferers to get better medical help and social support; see https://mylongcovid.org.uk/my-long-covid-needs .
Developed by the British Lung Foundation but general in its scope, it enables people to rate their post-Covid symptoms by relative severity, add anything else that may be affecting their overall health and generate a report that can be downloaded as a PDF and/or e-mailed to them. It saves an immense amount of time reporting to one's GP or trying to explain to disbelieving family, friends etc why one isn't feeling at all well yet.
There are also useful links to a number of other sources of support. -

Newspapers and TV News channels (Edited)
Which ones do you read and watch?
On weekdays I buy the I paper, unless it is sold out. Then I buy the Guardian. On Saturday I buy the Daily Mail, mainly for the Weekend magazine. Has the best all week tv guide.
I watch BBC news at Breakfast and 6pm
I sometimes watch Al Jazeera news and particularly like a programme called Risking It All. It's about people who risk their lives just to earn a living.
I also watch GB News mostly in the evenings. Programmes I would recommend are, Dan Wootton Tonight, Monday to Thursday from 9pm. If you don't watch the whole show, its worth tuning in about 10.45 for the nomination of Greatest Briton or Union Jackass.
Headliners , every night at 11pm. A comedy review of the next day's newspapers.
Free Speech Nation, Sundays at 7pm. I'm expecting tonight's show will have a dig at those Woke killjoys who are demanding Netflix cancel Jimmy Carr over a joke.
On my phone I have BBC, Al Jazeera, GBNews, CNN, Guardian and Mail online.
