Animal charities overwhelmed (Edited)
So many pets being given up or just abandoned due apparently to the high cost of living.
Question asked was 'do you heat your home, buy food or feed your pet?' for me it would be feed the pet first, even if I was cold and hungry.
Of course it is different if you have children to feed. -
Fracking (Edited)
I don’t know the full details but Rishi.Sunak has just announced a ban on fracking.

Happy Christmas ? It could be Armageddon
Things are getting out of control in the Ukraine. Russia has now drill rehearsed destroying the USA and completely sinking the UK. On any nuclear strike from Russia, the immediate reaction from the West would also destroy Russia and goodbye civilisation.

Heinz has teamed up with Morrisons to offer visitors a discreet free lunch if people need it – no questions asked.
All people have to do is ask for ‘Henry’ at one of the supermarket’s 400 cafés across the country to be given a free jacket potato and baked beans.
The offer is available from tomorrow October 26 until November 6. -

Closes in December -
My bathroom lever tap wouldn't turn off this morning, neighbour came in (bet he rues the day I moved here) but couldn't do it and water just gushing out. So having to constantly turn the mains water on again for water. Trying to get a plumber - joke. He went to local plumbers shop who said it would be two weeks for a plumber so book now. I have drains cover, etc., included in house insurance but, guess what, doesn't cover taps. Tried ringing other plumbers and not answering. I'm nervous this constant turning the mains on and off will affect the heating which I've turned to zero and I'm only using cold water when turned on so that I'm not starting the boiler up. Obviously will be needing a new tap.
Definitely not feeling young at heart at the moment. -

Looked out the bedroom window today and saw what I thought were long filaments of glass stretching across the sky.
A second look and I realized that it was the telephone wires which, as it was very still, were coated with dew, or melted frost?, and it was the sunlight being reflected or refracted off the water. The relative angles between the Sun, the wires an me must have been exactly right to cause this effect, a chance in a million as it only lasts a few minutes. -
An anonymous tory mp has suggested they should bring back Teresa May as PM. That would be worse than bringing Boris back.
How long can Truss hold on -
I just had an unexpectedly nice surprise, when anxiously looking up my October energy bill. Being ultra-cautious about turning on the heating has resulted in an unheard-of credit bill: the government payment which arrived at the start of the month exceeded the cost of September's energy usage.
No doubt things will change from now on, of course. -

My dad will be 90 in January and I'm thinking of making a custom photobook as a sort of this is your life. A few years ago I scanned all of the family photos and slides so I should have plenty to go in it.
I know there are several companies out there who can do custom photo books.
Ideally I'd like a company where I can upload the black and white and colour photos, arrange them on the pages in whatever sequence I decide, possibly with more than one photo on some pages and one big photo on others, and maybe crop them to fit. Then supply me with a glossy hardback book.
Have you made one of these books in the past and are there any companies you'd recommend?
Do you have any tips to get a good result? -
Something that those, like me that have a Pacemaker Implant might find interesting.
Went for the clinical MOT which should take place every 6 months, but this time instead of "wiring" me up to a machine, a wireless sensor was passed over my chest which "talks" to a new type of scanner. This procedure needs only a single operator instead of two.
On completion of the checks I was given an electronic device rather like a modem and instructed to plug it in near my bedside and how to set it up. This device monitors my implant all the time that I am within range and shows a flashing red warning if there is a problem so that I can contact the hospital. I was also given an appointment for my next check up for 2AM in a years time but I don't have to attend the hospital as they will download all the data while I sleep. This means that I only have to physically attend the hospital every 2 years instead of every 6 months, a great convenience to me and a saving in hospital resources. Further there are two points where the data is being tracked on a regular basis, the hospital, and the monitor's manufacturer, a sort of BIG BROTHER exercise. -

With Putin bellowing about making nuclear strikes in Ukraine and media punters sounding alarm about NATO retaliation and the resulting Armagedón for the Western world we should all be very worried indeed. Nobody wants civilisation to go back to the Stone Age.
Many countries have nuclear weapons in today's unsavory world, with Russia having a huge arsenal and the USA coming next in line.
The elementary point is that having huge stockpiles of nuclear weapons is utterly irrelevant and a waste of time and expense.
For example - the UK has 225 nuclear weapons, of which 120 are available and 40 are currently deployed, mainly by submarines of the Royal Navy 24/7. It would only take less than a dozen to completely destroy Russia - the UK could do that on our own without the help of others or reliance on the mighty USA.
And that evil pig Putin knows it.
So we must fear only a nuclear conflict and not who has the biggest drum. -

How much longer is Truss going to cling on for? -
I don't really get involved in politics nowadays, but I saw this looming up during the Tory leadership contest, simply by listening to her amatuer ramblings on TV and following the debacle online.
The Tory's sealed their fate by electing her and now she has put the last nail in their electoral coffin.
Neither her or the other contestant had any real top leadership potential whatsoever.
Theresa May - Boris Johnson - Liz Truss - what a bunch of amateur nondescripts compared with past Prime Ministers !
Now we will see what the Labour Party can do to run our country and economy.

Oldest Living Actors and Celebrities - 2022
I found this link very interesting indeed, to see the film and celebrities of past decades who are still alive. Many of these celebrities so much dominated my younger life.
To see all 500 of them will take about 20 minutes or more, but it is quite worthwhile, bringing the glorious past to life.
