The payments regulator has just slashed the new mandatory reimbursement limit for fraud victims that would have forced banks to provide better protections.
In a disgraceful move, the regulator has dramatically watered down vital new rules for firms to reimburse scam victims - slashing the limit from a proposed £415,000 to just £85,000. This comes just weeks before the new safeguards were due to come into effect.
It is outrageous that the regulator is siding with fraud enablers in the payments industry at the expense of scam victims. This is a complete betrayal of scam victims and caves to months of lobbying from firms that refuse to take fraud seriously. Victims of high-value fraud, including house purchases, stand to have their lives destroyed by this screeching U-turn.
Our director of policy and advocacy Rocio Concha, said:
‘This decision puts all of us at greater risk of being targeted by criminals because it reduces the incentives for banks and payments firms to take fraud prevention seriously.’

How the (bleep) do the do-gooders make up these numbers?
In today's I paper there's an article about gambling adverts during televised football matches. The match with the most was West Ham v Aston Villa. They claim there were 6,491 logos or adverts during the match which equates to 30 per minute.
How are they creating those figures because when the match is being played the most gambling logos you can see is three. One on the Villa shirts, one on the West Ham shirts, and one on the hoardings. Or did someone pause the tv every minute and count each individual player visible facing the camera.

Starmer has been dealt another blow after Labour members at the party’s conference voted in favour of a motion calling for ministers to reverse their cut to the winter fuel allowance.
A motion put forward by Unite at the party’s conference in Liverpool has been overwhelmingly backed by members, which will cause further blushes for Sir Keir.
While there is nothing binding about the vote, it puts further pressure on the Labour leadership over its controversial decision to remove the benefit.
The motion passed by a show of hands on what is the last day of the Labour Party conference in Liverpool. -

The Good the Bad and 25 years of rescuing cats!
Has very likely changed my life big time…
Never ending as not one day without being asked for the impossible. To help more in need of help by private individuals and other rescues.
Like other rescues I lack more space, more money and more time. I learnt a lot during those 25 years about cats and about people. I always made myself busy reading much about nutrition for pets and finding out the outcome of poor quality food. I experimented with various cat food over the years and also water of different ph . I encountered some amazing kind people the last 25 years some I remained friend with. But of course also some not so kind people i felt sorry for. I always feel sorry for people who abuse others, as no doubt they would be happier if they were kind!
Sadly ongoing Long Covid has slowed me down and often made me feel as if 100 years old the last few years.
Rarely reporting on my cat rescue activities as i need to use my time to get on with helping kitties and no time for chit chat! Also at long last moving on useless possessions into skip after skip.
Some of the cats are on waiting lists of rescues that offer vast and safe outdoor space without any neighbours…
Thanks again to those of you who have helped me help kitties in need in different ways.
Do not take on kitties unless you can offer them a kind forever home please or foster as long as you intend to return the cat! -

"With millions worried about rising costs and bills this winter, prove your ‘government of service’ is here for us - by taxing the ultra-rich to raise BILLIONS to help struggling families stay warm and safe.
No one should have to choose between heating their home and feeding their family. Right now, millions of households across the UK are facing impossible decisions, hardship and financial stress. But it doesn’t have to be like this.
A tiny 2% tax on assets over £10 million - paid by the richest 20,000 people in the UK - would raise £24 BILLION to provide crucial support and improve services. This is an opportunity for Keir Starmer’s ‘government of service’ to step up and serve the British public this winter, instead of the ultra-wealthy." -

Eating what an imigrant has cooked
Today I thought I'd take a chance at eating some food designed by an immigrant man.
Having seen some of the rubbish in this loop regarding immigrants living like pigs in s#!t, it would, possibly, be easy to be taken in by the racists and decide to go nowhere near a food outlet associated with immigrants.
The man in question arrived here in 1994 from Jamshedpur, India and was aged in his mid twenties.
He started cooking some years before deciding to come to the UK. Once he had decided that he wanted to cook for a living he joined the Oberoi group of hotels. During the next few years he worked his way up, eventually becoming a sous chef in the five star deluxe Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi,
supervising a staff of 18 and immediately raising the standards in the kitchen.
In 1994 he arrived in the UK. Britain had gained someone who would become a celebrity chef - Atul Kochhar.
Earning his first Michelin star in 2001, Atul then opened his own restaurant in London’s Mayfair, in 2002, which earned him a second Michelin star in 2007.
Today I visited his Sindhu restaurant in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. It wasn't my first visit and it certainly won't be my last. In fact, I have visited three of his restaurants, each with a different menu, each delicious.
Of course, unlike the squalor that some would have us believe is the norm for immigrants, the restaurant was spotless, I have no doubt that the kitchen was equally spotless. There were no signs of pigs in s#!t anywhere, just highly professional people supplying a top class service with the highest quality of food in perfect surroundings.
It is definitely somewhere to consider going and there are offers around on various voucher sites. I'm told that Travel zoo has a deal of a 3 course lunch for 2 with a glass of prosecco each for £48. I would recommend that if you can get it at that price it's worth getting. There is free parking on site, which is valid for the whole day, so you can dine, then walk along the Thames or wander around the town without worrying about parking fees.
I was using a voucher that somebody gave me for my last birthday. Because, when it was given to me, it said "Happy Birthday Derek" on the voucher, a little plate turned up with the dessert acknowledging my birthday.
