Whats your definition of a working person?
Starmers definition is below.. it's confused me! Even if someone has savings or property and have a Jon, they are working people in my eyes.
What's your definition?
In an interview during a Commonwealth leaders' summit, the prime minister was asked whether those who work, but get additional income from assets such as shares or property, would count as working people.
He replied that they "wouldn't come within my definition" - but warned against making "assumptions" about what that meant for tax policy.
He said he thought of a working person as someone who “goes out and earns their living, usually paid in a sort of monthly cheque" and who can't "write a cheque to get out of difficulties".
Speaking afterwards, his spokesman sought to clarify that those with a "small amount of savings" could still be defined as working people.
What would you feel if the tables were turned?
Perhaps American politician volunteers come here but not sure it’s a good idea.
The Trump campaign alleged that in recent weeks, Labour recruited and sent party members to campaign for his opponent, Kamala Harris, in critical battleground states in a bid to influence the 5 November .
“This past week marked the 243 anniversary of the surrender of British forces at the Battle of Yorktown, a military victory that ensured that the United States would be politically independent of Great Britian” – an incorrect rendering of “Britain”.
In response, UK prime minister Keir Starmer said that party officials volunteering for Harris ahead of the US presidential election on 5 November.

Up until yesterday Chris Kaba was "an innocent unarmed black man fatally shot by a trigger happy Met police officer". There was even a rent a mob outside the Old Bailey calling for the police officer to get a murder conviction.
After he was found not guilty, there was the traditional scene of three black women looking stern, with one of them reading the same old statement about how the justice system has yet again failed the black community.
Now today everything has changed as the judge has allowed Kaba's criminal life to be published. Only the day before he was shot, he was shooting a man in a nightclub. He was also one of the leading members of a London drug gang.

Water Softener... (Edited)
Environment Secretary is asked by Kay Burley this morning about accepting free football tickets from a water company.
Interviewing Steve Reed as he announced the government’s new independent review of the UK water industry, the Sky News presenter began by reminding the cabinet minister how one particular firm, Northumbrian Water, is one of three companies water regulator Ofwat says is not fit for purpose.
She pointed out that they recorded 30 sewage spills over the course of 2023, and that the chief executive received a bonus of £234,000 that year.
Burley then said: “Why did you take football tickets from the parent company?”
“I didn’t,” the minister replied.
But Burley reminded him that CK Hutchison Holdings own 75% of Northumbrian Water, and he declared £2,000 in football tickets and hospitality from that company in 2023.
Reed claimed, “I wouldn’t have known that” and added: “On that occasion there was nobody from the water company involved in offering those tickets.”
“Why didn’t you know that, you should have known that,” Burley pushed. “So you didn’t know who you were taking tickets from?”
He said the topic didn’t come up and had no impact on the evening, instead asking the presenter to “judge me by what I do”.
“That is what you did!” Burley cut in, and said he should have been aware who CK Hutchison Holdings owned.
She added: “This was only last December, you knew you were going to be in power.”
“The implications behind this is completely wrong,” Reed replied.
“It took my producer Sam five minutes to find that out,” Burley hit out.
“You are in charge of these businesses when it comes to delivering water to the UK and you didn’t know?”
“What makes you think you’re fit for your job?”
Reed, looking irate, said he rejected “the implications is that I will go soft on water companies”.
But, asked if he would take those tickets again, he said no “with hindsight,” adding:
“I don’t think it’s helpful you’re able to ask me questions like this.”
Burley laughed in disbelief...
They'd have to pay me a shed load of money to even consider doing a trial. Only 50% of participants get the drug and even then it may not work well. 🤢

Domestic abuse - early release of prisoners
I just watched an interview with the Justice Secretary, Shabana Mahmood about the prisoners who are to be released early. From what she said, some domestic abusers are being released early because there is no actual offence of domestic abuse.
One poor woman was interviewed beforehand and her husband has 2 restraining orders against him but she has received a letter saying he will be released early.
It's all down to the original charges as to whether someone is released or not, no matter if he's high risk of offending again.

If you suspect you are being scammed by someone pretending to be your bank
159 is a phone number that connects callers to their bank to report suspected fraud:
When to call
If you think you've been contacted by a fraudster or are a victim of a scam, you can call 159. This includes if someone claims to be from your bank, an authority figure, or asks you to transfer money or make a payment.
How it works
159 is a secure number that connects you directly to your bank. It's available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Who manages it
159 is managed by Stop Scams UK, which includes many banks across the UK.
Why it's important
Fraudsters often pretend to be banks or other organizations to steal money from individuals and businesses. The sooner you report fraud, the sooner your bank can take action.
159 is similar to 101 for the police or 111 for the NHS
When you ring you will be asked which bank, after that you will be connected to your own bank.
Fair!

Muslim police officer faces sack over alleged links to female jihadist
A hijab-wearing Muslim police officer who was hailed as a role model for confronting anti-lockdown protesters faces being sacked from Scotland Yard over her alleged links to a female jihadist in Syria.
Pc Ruby Begum, 29, is also accused of posting offensive messages on Twitter where she insulted Jews and mocked the 9/11 terror attacks.
She is alleged to have made the comments before joining the Metropolitan Police in 2016 but chose not to delete them after becoming a special constable.
Pc Begum, who faces a misconduct hearing, is alleged to have failed during the force’s vetting process “to disclose her association with a female jihadi living inside the Islamic State caliphate in Syria”.
She is also said to have an “interest in the teachings of extremist preachers”.
The officer, who serves with the Met’s territorial support group, a unit which specialises in public order policing, was praised by colleagues and the public in 2020 after a photograph of her confronting a mob of anti-lockdown protesters in London went viral on social media.
