Have I overdone done it? Or have other people joined as many?
I believe there are now almost 70 groups available! -
Today is a national holiday in Texas. Celebrating the day a Union soldier rode into Galveston to tell the black slaves the Civil War was over and they were free.
They now only had to worry about American police officers. -

How the super rich coped with lockdown
While we all try to get a Tesco delivery slot to risk shopping ourselves, the super rich emplay minions to queue at Waitrose for them, while lamenting that Harrods food hall is closed.
This is the article by FT columnist Shruti Advani who has a Venture Capitalist husband. Her kids are being home tutored for £95 per hour. So she can look good on Zoom calls she bought £425 silk pyjamas.

Newspaper, and other website links.
If you wish to avoid the advert, popup and video festooned page you are presented with when clicking links such as the one in the Primula post https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/18/tesco-asda-sainsburys-morrisons-urgently-recall-cheese-product-linked-paralysis-12869501/ , then do the following: Instead of clicking the link, right-click it and copy it, then paste it in to the address bar of the Edge browser. When it opens, click the open book and speaker icon at the end of the address bar. You will then have only the news item, which if you wanted to print it would save on ink and paper. You can also have it read to you.

Primula cheese can paralyse you
Where is @Lonicera our queen of the product recalls when we need her? This is a major one. All the supermarkets are recalling Primula cheese as it contains a food poisoning bug that can cause paralysis.

Funny how newspapers ‘tweak’ Stories (Edited)
Just seen this in the Guardian online
https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/18/man-rescued-by-uk-black-lives-matter-protester-is-ex-police-officer
And wonder what members think about how papers ‘pick and choose’ or word certain articles to biased the reader?
In this article the heading itself picks out that the man in the photo ‘is an ex police officer’ and writes the story therefore in that order.
He is actually a delivery driver and went there with other football fans - Millwall to ‘protect statues’ which it conveniently mentioned later in the story. The men that helped him said on BBC TV yesterday morning they went their to protect young people who were getting caught up in the protests with no adult supervision!
How would you have worded it ? Is the Guardian worse than other newspapers politically ?This discussion is now closed.

Can anyone tell me how the ‘point’ system works
I have just seen this new member who has no friends, has posted no comments etc but had 4 points
Whereas our ‘friend’ Vincent who tried to ‘befriend’ all the lady’s and had 4 friends for a whole day has NIL Points -
Can someone explain the point of following someone, if you follow a person do you get notifications whenever they post or comment ?
I have 3 more followers than friends and have only managed to suss out who 1 of them is, why don't they just send a friend request ? -

I’m sick of COVID-19. I’m sick of black vs. white. I’m sick of gay vs. straight. I’m sick of Christians vs atheists. I’m REALLY sick of the media. I’m sick of what flag is offensive and what flag is not. I'm sick of the lack of respect for the police because all police are not bad. I’m sick of no one being allowed to think what they want & feel what they do without offending someone. I am sick of blaming the whole for the sins of a few.
We’re one race, the human race. You want to support Boris Johnson? You do that. It’s your choice. You want to support Labour ? Fine... also your choice! You want to believe in God? Okay, believe in God. You want to believe in magical creatures that fly around & sprinkle fairy dust to make life better? AwesomeBUT stop thrusting your beliefs on others & not being able to deal with the fact that they don’t have the same exact mindset as you. Having our own minds is what makes us all individuals and beautiful. If you can’t handle the fact that you may have a friend that has opposing views as you, then you are not any better than the bigots and the racists.
I don’t have to agree with everything you believe to be a decent human being.

Smart Motorways Are Three times More Dangerous? Petition for your consideration.
Smart motorways ‘three times more hazardous’ The AA says it has found hazard log data compiled by Highways England – the organisation responsible for major roads in England – that suggests breaking down in a live ALR motorway lane can be up to three times more hazardous than doing so where there’s the possibility of taking refuge on an empty hard shoulder.
NO anecdotal evidence required to support the data above please.
The question is whether another "dialogue with a deaf government" is taking place.
Sign the petition if you want a return to safer motorways.

J K Rowling's Anti Trans Tweets
I'm wondering how people are reacting to the backlash against J K Rowling and what people on this sight think about transgender rights. I think that men being able to wake up one day and then think themselves women is barmy. I don't want men using women's changing rooms and toilets. I'm bringing this subject up because I feel that the transgender mob are very aggressive and could make life more dangerous for women.

Non-essential shops are now open and we are encouraged to go shopping to help the economy recover. I have not heard anyone suggest we should buy British where we can. If we only buy imports that might help the retailers, but it won’t do much for what remains of British industry or employment.

Not sure how far back we should go
A petition has been launched to 'shut down' the Guardian newspaper over accusations of hypocrisy for backing Black Lives Matter protests when it branded Abraham Lincoln 'abhorrent' in the US Civil War.
The paper, which was originally called the Manchester Guardian, was founded by John Edward Taylor in 1821 using profits from a cotton plantation that used slaves.
During the US Civil War 40 years later, it sided with the southern Confederates against President Lincoln, who wanted slavery abolished.
One extract from the paper on October 10, 1862, read: 'It was an evil day both for America and the world when he was chosen President of the United States.'
A year later it even opposed the Proclamation of Emancipation - which freed slaves - and described the President's time in office after his assassination as 'abhorrent'.
I also read an interesting article sent to me about the Irish being taken as slaves to The Caribbean. -

Are we really in lockdown? Not enough to sit on beaches or riot some people of Britain follow through with illegal raves , Police cars overturned, a rape and several stabbings. -
BBC makes nearly 215,000 radio and TV programmes available online. (Edited)

Since childhood I tried to find the answer even asked at the surgery and googled. My sister-in-law confirms she also had to do it.
During my childhood we never were allowed to eat fruit with stones and drink water. Had to wait --forgot now-- either 1 or 2 hours. Apparently it could be fatal.Do you know why? or is it an old wives tale? -

Is the change.com petition site ridiculous
In recent times it seems that the site has been hit with the most ridiculous petitions and often several on the same subject - which meant one or more cancelled others out. A few days ago the White Cliffs of Dover being renamed was removed from the site. This is yet again another unrealistic and childish petition In my opinion - what do members think 🤔
