"The Pope faces UN investigation over his personal authorisation of allegedly unlawful wiretaps during a Vatican investigation into the “corrupt” sale of a £300 million central London property.
Lawyers for Raffaele Mincione, a British financier accused of defrauding the Vatican, have filed a complaint to the UN about alleged abuses committed during the trial by Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide.
Rodney Dixon KC, a leading human rights barrister, has accused the Pope of personally authorising unlawful wiretaps of Mr Mincione’s phone during the investigation into alleged wrongdoing at the Vatican.
During the trial, it emerged that Pope Francis himself handed powers to investigators allowing them to tap phones, intercept emails and arrest anyone they wanted to without approval from a judge. The powers were based on “rescritti” – ancient laws that the Pope could use as divine monarch of the Vatican.
In the complaint to Prof Margaret Satterthwaite, the UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, Mr Dixon listed the Pope as a “perpetrator” of human rights abuses."

Stamp Duty (Edited)
Tories promise no stamp duty for first time buyers, under £425,000.
Why not for a purchase at any price?
Wretched Treasury small-minded accountants, that's why.
Why not cancel stamp duty for vendors over 70?
Lots of baby boomers want to downsize, and that would be an excellent way of encouraging the sale of larger homes with only one or two occupants.
Why not just do away with stamp duty completely?
It's one of the worst taxes stiflng individual aspiration.
Moving to a new home generates many complementary businesses, and produces a feel good factor missing since the 2008 debacle.
Too radical for any party?

More people are turning away from news, describing it as depressing, relentless and boring, a global study suggests.
Almost four in 10 (39%) people worldwide said they sometimes or often actively avoid the news, compared with 29% in 2017, according to the report by Oxford University's Reuters Institute.

as Suzy P collected £216 last month from some of you who kindly helped me help rescued cats in need.
This paid for a £190 vet bill for a poorly 8 year old cat and the difference went towards the fuel bill.
Thank you also for the much appreciated large box of Sheba.
Kitten wet food much needed.
Fosterers and five star homes more than ever needed for rescued cats.
This morning going to try to catch a very poorly scared cat that appeared in someone’s garden in N14 and take him to the vet’s then I will try to get some from N18 mosque that badly need help. The problem is what to do with them after vet visits?

I am sure (or hope) that many of us have volunteered during our lives, but it appears the celebration of it has been almost forgotten this year by the media.

This is interesting reading.
e.g. younger men have a bigger [ smaller?] problem than you'd expect...
Although it was 80 years ago I can remember is as if it were yesterday, despite being almost 13 years old at the time.
I lived on the SE coast at the time and we awoke to the sound of aircraft engines and on looking out there were aircraft from horizon to horizon, formation upon formation, all heading out to the sea. It was clear that something very big was going on long before the announcement on the radio. What was amazing was that this stream of aeroplanes continued throughout the day until dusk, it seemed impossible that we could have so many aeroplanes.
Being so young I was unaware of the full impact of what was going on and that while I wondered at what I was seeing, only a few miles away men were being killed in their thousands, it takes time to come to a full understanding.
