Virgin Media telephone adapter
Has anyone else been sent one of these?
The VM landline phone service is going full fibre at the end of the month, so customers are being sent adapters so your landline phone can be plugged into your router or hub.
For me that means unplugging the router from the broadband cable upstairs to bring it downstairs to plug in the phone line. So I'm assuming (hoping) the new all fibre phoneline will also carry the broadband.
Will wait and see. -

Freedom to Pay
We wanted to share some good news...
In a huge win for consumers, the government has unveiled new measures to protect free access to cash.
Following the success of our longstanding Freedom to Pay campaign, the Financial Services and Markets Bill was introduced to Parliament last year. This is a crucial new law that will protect access to cash. Ever since then, we’ve been keeping up the pressure behind the scenes to make sure the government delivered on its promises.
As part of this Bill, the Financial Conduct Authority will be given the power to stop banks and building societies from closing cash access services, such as ATMs, if there are no suitable alternatives within a reasonable distance. And now crucially, thanks to our efforts, the Bill will also guarantee consumers can withdraw and deposit their cash for free.
Cash is hugely important for millions of consumers and communities, and with the support of people like you, we’ve been fighting hard for many years to make sure those who are not yet ready or able to make the switch to digital payments don’t get left behind.
Thank you so much for everything you have done in the fight to protect cash. We are so proud of what we have been able to achieve together. Keep reading to find out more about the win here.

This incident says a lot about the French
At the French Open tennis this week there was a women's singles match between a Russian and a Ukrainian. The Russian won. At the end of the match they refused to shake hands, which is understandable. But it was only the Ukrainian who was booed off court. The Russian was applauded and cheered as she walked off.
Says a lot about the French and whose side they are really on. -

I thought this was very sad when I first read it, one lady who I could actually listen to and admire. Just so young.

The difference between a chase and following
Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson declared that the couple were chased and the Mayor twisted that statement by saying he doubted that it was a high speed chase (those words were not in the spokespersons statement)

Thoughtful email from shopping company
I received an email today from a place I shop online.
It said they understand that it can be upsetting getting email suggestions for mothers or fathers days for some people and if I wanted to opt out of the upcoming fathers days suggestions to let them know.
I thought this was a really nice thing for them to do as I remember last year being upset after losing dad and getting some -
And I nearly threw up.

Tory MP Miriam Cates has said the UKs low birthrate is a ticking timebomb because soon there will not be enough working age young adults to do all the jobs.
So we need to bring in more people from abroad.
But at the same time people are saying, "we don't want any more migrants, the country is full".
Can't have it both ways

A huge happiness and positive thinking industry, estimated to be worth US$11 billion a year, has helped to create the fantasy that happiness is a realistic goal. Chasing the happiness dream is a very American concept, exported to the rest of the world through popular culture. Indeed, “the pursuit of happiness” is one of the US’s “unalienable rights”. Unfortunately, this has helped to create an expectation that real life stubbornly refuses to deliver.
Because even when all our material and biological needs are satisfied, a state of sustained happiness will still remain a theoretical and elusive goal, as Abd-al-Rahman III, Caliph of Córdoba in the tenth century, discovered. He was one of the most powerful men of his time, who enjoyed military and cultural achievements, as well as the earthly pleasures of his two harems.
Towards the end of his life, however, he decided to count the exact number of days during which he had felt happy.
They amounted to precisely 14.
