I had a beer with a retired ex-copper mate on Saturday who is or was a member of Scooploop. He said because we know the distance between our home and everyone else's it's fairly easy to pinpoint where we all live to within no more than twenty streets. He pinpointed mine to twelve streets in less than a minute. Knowing our first name a trip to the Havering Central Library to search through the electoral register and he would know the address he was looking for in minutes in most cases. That is made easier if he knows the names or number of other people living in our homes. People living on their own are just as easy to find. Another security lapse is the ability to click onto any other members name and read all the posts they have made. Doing that we can learn who lives alone and when we are away from home for holidays, meals, etc, etc. For obvious reasons ladies living on their own are probably most at risk. By using a "keyword indicator app" whatever that is, all kinds of other information can be found that would greatly help any criminal amongst us. He said that unless Scooploop removes our location details and distance from other users this site is putting us all at risk. He also said most of us are barking mad for putting everything about our lives online, and once again I am one of the worse offenders.

What household things are essentiall that we didnt have years ago.
This can't possibly be controversial, or can it?
For starters, I don't own, want or need a smart or iPhone. Im not sure if many of the (much) younger generation could function without one though. -
If anyone wants to know what many of ths younger generations really think of baby boomers just google "the selfish generation". There are lots to read and unsurprisingly I agree with much that has been written about us.

Can anyone recommend a professional cake maker? I want to get my sweet-toothed husband something special for his birthday and I've always been horrendous at baking. Any help would be appreciated.

Just had my insurance renewal for my shower from Homeserve, they wanted £117, £9 more than last year. I thought, they are taking the proverbial, so contacted Domestic and General, they did it for £69, same cover. When I phoned Homeserve to cancel, she asked if she could see if they could improve on the price, and put it down to £68. I told her where to stick it, as why wasn't I offered the best price in the first place. She said they sent a general renewal because they have so many customers. In my opinion their computer should generate the best price for each customer. Sorry rant over.

I have just learned from a fellow Scoplooper that Jon D is unable to post on this forum. I rarely agree with him but without the old *******, I think I may die of boredom. If he has been blocked by admin perhaps some of us could PM them and say we want him back.

Haveringstreets, the unblockable thread (Edited)
As Im unable to post on the original thread I felt I had to start another one so I can offer my sincerest apologies for habitually referring to BumbleDEE as Bumblebee. Im sure she is a real honey, and a Scooploop queen though, Lol.
I now intend to buzz off to Specsavers to have my eyes tested before they get too busy. -
Hi all,

Gas Safe Engineers (Edited)
Today I had to have a new gas feed pipe run into my house and have it connected to the meter. An engineer turned up and I asked to see his gas-safe certificate but he didn't have it with him so I asked him to leave. At 8 pm another engineer turned up and I asked him the same question but he didn't have it either. I then asked him for his seven digit number so I could check it out on the gas-safe register. He said he couldn't remember it, so I asked him his name so I could check it and see his photo online on the same register. He seemed to have a problem remembering his name but finally gave me it. Unsurprisingly he wasn't registered so I told him to leave. I had spoken to someone at Gas-safe earlier and they told me if I didn't have the engineers number and something went wrong any insurance could be invalidated because I had allowed an unqualified person to work in my house.
Hopefully, this thread will serve as a warning to other forum users to always check a tradesman's qualifications before allowing work to be carried out because the consequences could be dangerous and very expensive if anything goes wrong. -
Went to the Sunflower Suit at Queens this afternoon for my wife's chemo session and the local Muslim Mosque was handing out baskets full of food goodies to all the patients. Apparently, its something they do every year as part of Ramadam. Everyone agreed it was a lovely gesture and how lucky we are to have such kind people as part of our community.

Usually on modern laptops changing or repairing a charging port is half an hours work.
On this fairly old machine it was considerably longer, but the customer loves her machine so why not 😊
Complete disassembly for a small repair 😂 -

Strange Names People Call Their Children (Edited)
Earlier this morning I took my dog to the park where we met a delightful little girl dressed in all her finery who made a big fuss of my dog. I said to her she looked just like a princess. She said that was her name. Mum must have noticed the bemused look on my face and confirmed that really was her name. I come away thinking what a lovely name for such a lovely little girl
I suppose the only possible downside would be if she fell in love and married one of the royal princes.
Princess Princess just wouldn't sound right, although I suppose we would get used to it in time. -
This morning Peter started a thread about Mothercare closing a number of stores. I replied that I couldn't understand why because the Romford store is always buzzing, they sell good quality products at reasonable prices and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. My post was in no way rude aggressive or personal, and if I was a Mothercare employee I would have been proud to have seen such a post.
Im fairly certain Peter isn't responsible, so what is going on? -

Financial Advice (Edited)
Earlier today Peter posted something about a company that helps find the cheapest deals for our energy needs. I responded by mentioning another organization that does something similar. Because of the Scooploop layout, unfortunately, within days both posts will be lost in cyber-space because they would be difficult to find. I wonder if someone with the technical ability could somehow find a way to have all money saving ideas put into easy to find separate categories so we can all benefit.

Laptop chassis repair (Edited)
This laptop came to me yesterday with broken hinges and a cracked bottom case. The laptop lid could not be opened without lifting the entire screen out.
Iv rebuilt the chassis and repaired the damage on the hinges
Laptop works great now. Good result -
I went to Aldi yesterday and was stopped by a man who asked me to donate to the air ambulance charity. I took a pound out of my pocket but was told I had to make donations by standing orders. I declined to do so and the charity lost money. I noticed others doing the same so perhaps it's not a good strategy by air ambulance.
Staying on the charity theme, its always amazed me that we accept its normal to rely on charity shops and flag days to help fund life saving medical research. At the same time, we think it acceptable to spend hundreds of billions of pounds on nuclear weapons which have the capacity to destroy our planet.
I long for the day when medical research is properly funded by taxation, and weapons of mass murder rely on charity. Will it ever happen, I doubt it. -
No, its not an April fools joke!!
Ladies and gents, no I am not joking…. A full computer/laptop service for just £40!!! Give me a call, I will perform a full software and hardware service (where applicable) for just £40. This will include collection and delivery. So many of my customers have given me such good feedback, book now before this promo ends.
Thanks

Can anyone please explain the Scooploop blocking policy.
On the Romford Breakfast Club thread Peter is having conversations with two people and I cant see the posts from either. As I have neither offended or even heard of both participants it seems odd that I have been blocked from seeing their posts for no reason whatsoever. -
Hi all,
The cooling system on your desktop, laptop is responsible for keeping the CPU cool and therefore working to its potential. When the thermal compound deteriorates, temperatures can rise to 70 or 100 degrees, at which point the CPU starts to throttle in order to keep cool, thus affecting the performance of your machine.
Yesterday I serviced a laptop running extremely slow and VERY hot, mid 80's. its now running at 35 degrees under load. A very good outcome.
If you have a slow machine, why not book it in for a service, full software and hardware service at £60 (others usually charge £120).
Regards
Bunty

So recently I received a number of laptops, all reasonably new, and all with a similar problem, they were all VERY slow. It is unfortunate that many high street stores don't actually know how to configure a computer properly in order to optimize the way they work. You should not have to wait minutes for the machine to power on, or wait long periods for an application to load.
I am happy to say that I was able to get them all working properly and much faster.
If you have a computer problem, why not give your local IT professional a call, 07841645111.

LIDL - Hornchurch - Predictions
LIDL opens on Thursday and I thought I'd make a few predictions. Traffic can only turn left into and out of the car park.
1. Long queues from the lights at Abbs Cross.
2. Long queues in Abbs Cross lane.
3. Long queues in Abbs Cross Gardens.
4. Long queues in Hornchurch Road from town centre.
5. Store personnel at exit/entrance to prevent illegal turns and smooth traffic entrance and egress (it's monitored by cameras).
After a week or so of local gridlock, the council propose action.
1. Lights at the entrance - doubt it.
2. A mini-roundabout - possible / probable.
3. Exit at back of store - no.
Statement from council - "We apologise for the delays in Hornchurch Road which are due to the opening of a new store. We could not have foreseen the traffic delays and if traffic doesn't realign itself after a short period we will be taking action to alleviate the problems. Havering Council takes the free movement of traffic most seriously and will do everything that it can to ensure traffic once again flows freely".
I hope I'm wrong, so that I can get to Sainsbury's.
Please add your predictions. -
I was listening to an article on the radio about potholes, the number of which is expected to increase due to the recent bad weather. When we had that bad weather of storm after storm a few years ago, it wrecked the roads, including my street, so I bought a few bags of ready made concrete (postcrete) and filled in 4 or 5 holes after dark. I also added a few stones. This cost me about £10 and the patchwork is still effective. Of course, I could have used the cheaper option of spraying a giant phallus around each hole to make the council take action (somebody did that somewhere).

Hi, it's that time of year again, when my dual fuel contract is up for renewal, I was wondering if anyone can recommend a reasonably priced Company. I had been thinking of trying OVO. Has anyone had any dealings with them?

Ice On Lorries. (Edited)
I don't know if any other Scooploopers have thought of this, but on lorries, the snow that settles on top of high sided trucks turns to a massive sheet of ice when the temperature drops. If the driver has to brake sharply, or even for no apparent reason the sheet of ice slides off at an amazing speed, and heaven help anyone that's driving to close too the truck.
Even if the roads have been well gritted and look safe to drive normally there's still hidden hazards, so, please everyone, keep an extra safe distance from all trucks as long as we are having this terrible weather. -
I like a quiz and although I am sometimes appalled that people don't know the capital of Scotland, the longest river in Britain or who our Head of State is, I keep going and not winning - mainly because I know nuffink about modern music or TV. Undoubtedly, the best quiz about is the ten rounds, marathon and joker format provided at the NALGO Quiz on the last Wednesday of the month at the Legion in Hornchurch. £2.50 and room for more tables.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the scandal surrounding an amazing charity? While I fully understand why people are no longer making donations to Oxfam, it's the people that need help the most that will suffer.
If it was one of the two cancer charities I subscribe to I would be bitterly disappointed, but still donate because I value the work they fund. -

Found this rhubarb gin recipe and thought I'd share in case there are any other gin lovers around! It's ready in 3 days.
You will need:
500ml gin
Jar
coffee filters
300g rhubarb (about 3 stalks)
4 slices fresh ginger (skin cut off)
3 tablespoons sugar
Method
Step 1:
Wash your jar and sterilise it with boiling water. Wash and chop the rhubarb into 1cm chunks and place it in the jar. Add the sugar and ginger. Pour in the gin, close the jar and give it a good shake.
Step 2:
Leave for 3 days. Shake a couple of times a day.
Step 3:
Filter through the coffee filter to get a clear gin. If you can, leave it to filter overnight to get as much gin as possible.
Step 4:
Pour into a glass bottle so you can admire its pink colour. Serve and enjoy.
Think I'll be making a batch when rhubarb's in season! -
In the days before social media many people used the letters column in local newspapers to get their point across. Once the letter had been sent and hopefully published we rightfully had no rights as to who could see our correspondence, or who could reply because we had passed ownership of our words to the newspaper.
It seems that recently certain Scooploop users have been denied the right to reply by being blocked from certain threads by other forum users. IMO this cannot be right because not only is it denying the right of reply but also stops others that may be interested from seeing an alternative viewpoint. I believe that if anyone makes threatening, racist or sexist post they should be reported to the Scooploop owners who would hopefully ban them, and only they should be the arbiters. If ordinary members can decide who can see their posts, or reply on threads they have started then freedom of thought and speech is denied and there would be little point in Scooploop. -

Most of the people I recommend this TV program to have never heard or seen it.
George Clark is a charismatic Geordie architect and his sidekick Will Hardy is a genius that can turn Crazy ideas into reality.
Well worth a try and it on Channel Four at 8pm tonight. -
Hi everyone - Happy New Year!
Does anyone know a good spa/massage therapy they can recommend? I want to pamper my friend (and me) for her birthday. If they do facials and other treatments, not just massages, that would be great.
