    Charities

I went to Aldi yesterday and was stopped by a man who asked me to donate to the air ambulance charity. I took a pound out of my pocket but was told I had to make donations by standing orders. I declined to do so and the charity lost money. I noticed others doing the same so perhaps it's not a good strategy by air ambulance.
Staying on the charity theme, its always amazed me that we accept its normal to rely on charity shops and flag days to help fund life saving medical research. At the same time, we think it acceptable to spend hundreds of billions of pounds on nuclear weapons which have the capacity to destroy our planet.
I long for the day when medical research is properly funded by taxation, and weapons of mass murder rely on charity. Will it ever happen, I doubt it.
