Transport for London (TfL) has partnered with British Orienteering to create a season of active travel-inspired urban orienteering challenges, giving Londoners the chance to explore the city in a whole new way throughout September and October. The challenges complement TfL’s Streetspace for London plan, which is helping to make space for walking, improve cycling conditions and enable people to maintain social distancing as London recovers from the coronavirus pandemic.
From Dalston, to Clapham and Camden, the orienteering challenges will take people on a journey of discovery across the city utilising recently widened pathways and newly completed Streetspace schemes.
Participants can find their way around the city on carefully mapped routes. The challenge is to simply visit the 12 numbered points marked on the map with a circle and match them to their corresponding photo. Participants can find them in any order and completing the task correctly is an exercise of skill rather than speed, testing their map reading skills and ability to plan their route. Each participant who successfully finishes the challenge and submits their results will automatically be entered into a prize draw. Eight winners will be chosen at random to win a special limited-edition moquette picnic set from the London Transport Museum.
The challenges are part of the Mayor’s strategy to encourage more people to walk and take advantage of the additional space that has been created on London’s streets thanks to TfL’s Streetspace for London programme which is transforming town centres and reducing traffic on residential streets.
Walking has been shown to have many physical benefits, including reducing the risk of Type 2 diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease and cancer, but there are wider benefits too. Walking for just 10 minutes twice a day can reduce stress and anxiety and has also been proven to reduce the risk of depression by 20-30 per cent.
Since May, Streetspace has led to more than 65km of new or upgraded cycle infrastructure being built or currently under construction, along with more than 16,500 square metres of extra pavement space on the TfL network alone. This has enabled more people to social distance while travelling and visiting shops along major high streets in the capital. TfL has also installed a total of 1,540 extra cycle parking spaces across London, focused around busy areas like high streets and transport hubs.
The free maps and activity sheets plus the link to submit your results can be found on the British Orienteering website:

Really moving exhibition is taking place across Southbank Centre, definitely worth to see! It celebrates the contributions that key workers and frontline staff have made during the pandemic.
It features more than 40 portraits of some of the entirely ordinary but also utterly remarkable people – among them health workers, bus drivers, faith workers and shop assistants – who have helped to keep this country going during the crisis, often working in extremely challenging circumstances and putting their own personal safety at risk.
More details here: https://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/hayward-gallery-art/everyday-heroes -
the London Eye, Madame Tussauds London, the Sea Life London Aquarium, The London Dungeon and Shrek’s Adventure! London will reopen on Saturday August 1.
Safety protocols will include:
- reduced capacity to allow for social distancing, meaning you’ll need to pre-book a timed ticket;
- temperature checks for all guests and team members prior to entry;
- enhanced cleaning procedures, with hygiene stations and hand sanitiser at key points throughout the attractions;
- any guest over the age of 11 will be asked to wear a mask;
- staff will wear face masks/coverings or appropriate PPE. -

Come along and learn repair skills to give new life to items that you would normally throw away and make them useable again.
ABOUT THIS EVENT
Our team of Waste Prevention Officers and repair specialists are looking forward to meeting you at this Repair Café. Bring along old or damaged belongings such as clothes and bicycles to be potentially fixed by repair specialists, for free. If you prefer to upcycle old clothes with a fashionable twist that’s no problem, bring your creative ideas with you, too. In addition to fixing an item, the repair specialists will train you one-on-one throughout the repair process, so that you can repair or upcycle items yourself in the future.
Please note that the following terms and conditions will be applied:
For bike repairs: only one bicycle is allowed per person, please be aware that spare parts such as tires, are not provided during the event.
For textile repairs: please note that you can only bring up to 3 pieces of textile with you to be amended.
What are Repair Cafés?
Repair Cafés are events where you can bring along old or damaged belongings such as clothes, electrical and electronic items, and bicycles to be potentially fixed by repair specialists, for free. If you prefer to bring old clothes and learn how to upcycle them, this is also fine. A Repair Café is not a place for people to simply drop off broken items, but you will get to interact with the repair specialists, learn skills and build a relationship with the processes and materials that go into the manufacturing of products.

Hi all
We are looking for volunteers to help with a Give and Take Day this
Saturday ( 11th January)
The event will be held in the Aldgate/Barbican area.
WHAT IS A GIVE AND TAKE DAY?
We will be sorting out donated items and putting them on tables. Once this is done we open the doors to let those attending the event take items away for free,it's a bit like a Freecycle in the community event.
Volunteers help by putting donated items on the tables, looking after their area and generally chatting to members of the public when the event opens.
We will be there to let you know what goes where etc so please don't worry about not knowing what to do.
It's a fun event with the aim being to keep things out of landfill and to find homes for good quality reusable items.
Time commitment on the day is 10-3.30pm.
Due to the fluid nature of the event we can never give an exact ending time ( it may end sooner or later than these times).
Please only respond if you are available to help out at the times stated.
We can't consider people that can only do an hour or so or half a day.
All volunteers receive Time Credits for their help:
Here is a link to the scheme:
https://timecredits.com/about
We also provide a light lunch before the events starts
( eg sandwiches/fruits/snacks/drinks) .
If you are interested in helping out at this event then please let me know
by commenting here or sending me a private message.
Please only respond if you are interested in volunteering on the day,as this
is a post for volunteers.
Thanks everyone.
Regards

Hi all
Another organisation called Calling London also have a winter coat campaign
Our annual Winter Coat Campaign runs 1 - 30 November.
Throughout the month you can donate your unwanted coats at our public drop-off points across London. Find your closest one on the map above.
We need coats/parkas/puffas -- the warmer the better. These will be given out to Londoners who desperately need them.
If the zips are broken or they are stained, we cannot give them to our beneficiaries, so please don't donate them.
We only give out coats that we would wear ourselves -- in clean, good condition:

Spreading the word about this
Wrap Up London is back
For the 9th year running, we are collecting your old, unwanted coats and giving them to charities that support the homeless, refugees, children living in poverty and people fleeing domestic violence (to name a few).
Help us keep vulnerable people warm this winter by donating a coat this November

Following one of the recommendations from Camden Council’s recently convened Citizens Assembly: “to mobilise community”, we are thrilled to have been asked by Camden Council to co-design a pop up community space which is opening next week in Kentish Town. Yes, you read it right - next week.
Based in the old Flapjacks cafe, Think will be a community space for Climate and Eco Action. Open for 6 weeks every Thursday-Saturday, midday to 8pm, Think will be a bustling hub of Imagination workshops, energy forums, ideas for greening up, share and repair, transport and pollution campaigning, fashion up-cycling, film-screening, a school wall, mapping workshops, and Saturday surplus suppers cooked with Vegbox: a space for us, the community, to come together to co-create ideas to address the Climate and Ecological Emergency in Camden. There will even be an energy bike to power a string of solar lights! Come and burn up some calories.
Our community space for climate and eco action, which we are co-designing with the council, will be open from this Saturday.
Do join us on Saturday for a day of pallet furniture making, community mapping and painting a kids school wall. There will be a shared lunch, or just feel free to pop in at any time on Saturday for a tea/coffee to take a quick look.
We will send a newsletter out soon with next week’s highlights. This will include: a wildflower workshop 3:30-5pm on 8/11 followed by an inspiring talk from Power Up North London on renewable energy 6pm-8pm. There will be a giant clothes swop on Saturday 9/11 followed by a Rewilding Camden veg box shared meal on 9/11 5-8pm.
Watch out for news on weaving workshops, letters to the earth, retrofitting, school debates, culture declares, laughter yoga… lots of events aimed at unleashing the power of our imagination, and bringing the community together to respond to the Climate Emergency.
If you would like to offer a workshop/talk contact debbiebourne21@gmail.com. -

Hi neighbours,
I know it's a little cold to be writing about ice cream.. but I couldn't contain my excitement as I discovered a local gem just a walking distance away from where I live! Plus I always am open with sharing my culture with others!
It's basically a small Filipino ice cream shop which offers exotic ice cream flavors other than your classic chocolate and vanilla.
Coming from Asia, it was a struggle to find authentic taste of home locally (other than the China town in central).
I tried three ice cream flavours:
1. Purple is a sweet potato type of yam
2. Black is a black buko coconut
3. Green is the matcha green tea
And then there's a bilog which is queso CHEESE ice cream sandwiched between a bun!
On the left if a halo halo - a ice summer dessert which is crushed iced with condense milk, canned fruit and topped with yam ice cream!
YUMMMMMMM
It is a little pricey tho.

She wants to to cover anything from sustainable fashion, makeup, plastic usage, reusable goods etc..
Do you know of any small businesses, start ups, charities etc that would be interested in taking part ?
Please feel free to send me a private message me if you do.
Thanks everyone. -

So if you’re having a spring clean the time please consider the following two charities.
Give and MakeUp accept lightly used make up and toiletries and give them to women who have escaped abuse and make it to refuges with next to nothing. They say if it’s good enough to give your friend, they’ll accept it.
Smalls for All give bras to women in Africa who are at risk of being raped. The possibility of a woman being raped is significantly less if she is wearing a bra as it is seen as a sign of wealth.
If you’d like to do the same, the addresses are in the photo.
