Royal Free Trust needs your help

During these very difficult times, some of you may be aware of the practical work Finchley Victoria Bowling & Croquet Club is doing. They wished to be productive in helping the community further, by helping the ‘NHS Frontline workers’. They have been in regular contact with the ‘Royal Free Trust’ to identify what practical help they would be able to provide and assist them with. They identified that they needed Computer Tablets, along with smart phones so that isolated, sadly some dying patients can ‘face time’ conversations with their families at a time when they need to engage with them most. To date they have collected welcome donations to fund the purchase of 7 Tablets and 6 smart phones and delivered them to The Royal Free and Barnet Hospitals. However, they need more

If you have any smart phones and or tablets that you no longer use hiding away in draws or cupboards, dig them out and donate them, or send a small donation. If you can help, get in touch with Gary on 07956 546457 or garybargroff@btinternet.com at Finchley Victoria Bowling & Croquet Club he will happily to make arrangements with you so that he can deliver them to the hospitals.

As long as this lockdown continues, we'll keep doing our best to alleviate the isolation of those with hearing loss. The Zoom lipreading classes continue and are ensuring that those who attend still get to socialise with each other and keep up the vital skills they're learning.

      Mindset Workshops

Nicole has now written a great group course on managing anxiety and the feedback has been fantastic. It involves understanding what anxiety is, using the “rules of the mind” to understand how anxiety is triggered and what you can do to control it, plus practical exercises during the sessions and for homework, a group hypnosis session and individual follow up to get to the root cause of the anxiety, and two recordings to listen to and relax and also re-programme your mind. You can read more about Nicole on her website www.nicolefreemancoach.weebly.com or on the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/nicolefreemancoach/ both of which have testimonials.

Foodbanks are a lifeline for those who rely on the donations to feed their families

Foodbanks are a lifeline for those who rely on the donations to feed their families and demand for foodbank services has already gone up. This is only going to grow as the number of people who unexpectedly find themselves without a regular or reduced income increases.

We believe that working together makes the biggest difference. That’s why the Co-op will be making it as easy as possible for customers and members to get involved by donating:

By text – donating £10 to FareShare by texting MEALS to 70490

Healthy Diet - from your Local Coop Member Pioneer

Keeping a Healthy diet without your normal shopping

With the Coronavirus continuing to dominate our daily lives at the moment, one of the issues we face is that some foods we would normally buy (like pasta, or canned tomatoes) are not always available when we go shopping.

The British Nutrition Foundation has outlined some ideas about using food items that might be less popular and still on the shelves. These include:

      - Packs of noodles, couscous, bulgur wheat, quinoa or barley may still be on shelves as opposed to Pasta and rice.

      - Beans and lentils

      - Canned vegetables and fish.

      - Nut butters

      - Dried fruit

It can also be a good time to try out a packet or can of something that you bought but have never got around to cooking! You can find the full article at https://tinyurl.com/tc6627w

With many of us at home with children as the schools are closed it could be a good time to try out some simple recipes to make together.

Can what I eat stop me getting the virus?

It is also important to mention that no food or supplement can protect you from getting the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Nevertheless, having a healthy diet is important in supporting our immune function and many nutrients influence the body’s ability to fight infection.

You can find out more on the immune system and how different food and nutrients can help with that here.

If you need some inspiration on what to cook, the Co-op has a full variety of different meals to suit everyone – You can find out more at https://www.coop.co.uk/recipes/healthy-recipes

A friend came out of tube station central London last night carrying her tote. A night out with us after her husband had just died.
An ‘elderly lady’ had fallen over at tops of steps so of course she stopped to help her.
It took some time sadly before she realised that her Chanel handbag containing valuables , cash and all her credit cards had been stolen from the tote. Saddest of all is that who knowing this will offer help to anybody again? 😡😡😡

Beatrice and the Rescue Cats Monthly Donation Scheme

      This month we collected £373.
Thank you to all the loyal supporters who continue so generously to contribute to support Beatrice in her never ending rescue of cats in our area. Some truly awful stories of cats in need and she continues to work at all hours in often atrocious conditions. Please let me know if you would like to help.
