I'm getting inundated with prerecorded voice calls in Mandarin on all of my phone numbers and despite blocking source numbers they keep coming from different ones.
A quick search online tells a story of Chinese-based scam that looks for illegal Chinese immigrants and threatens them with legal action if they don't follow up on the call.
OK, I'm obviously an illegal Chinese immigrant and I'd love to participate but I don't understand a bloody word they are saying. However, their persistence is driving me absolute noodles!

DELIGHTED that a confirmatory referendum on ANY Brexit deal was the popular of the indicative votes
I'm sure many of you will have taken comfort from the results from Parliament last night. While there was no consensus for anything, it's enormously encouraging that putting any deal agreed by Parliament to the people (Beckett one) received the greatest support.
There also appear to be many on this site who don't understand the significance of the events of last week. Whatever the bleating of the naysayers, there are robust protocols in place to ensure petitions cannot be gamed, and Donald Tusk quite rightly said that the 6m who signed the petition to revoke article 50 cannot be betrayed. I went on the march with 1m others too, which was an amazing atmosphere of determination and resolve and could not have been better timed. 90% of all the polls carried out over the last 18 months show a significant shift to remain, with the latest showing 55/45%. Keep fighting everyone, our MPs from across the political spectrum in SW London are fighting on our behalves too - Marsha de Cordova, Dr Rosena Alin-Khan, Justine Greening and Vince Cable in Battersea, Tooting, Putney and Twickenham. Put a remain poster or EU flag in your front window, keep exposing the lies of the leave campaign on your social media, keep sharing the petition. We are WINNING and I'm more optimistic than at any other time since the criminally procured EU ref result. A vote is coming, bring it on! -

Schools and hidden food danger (unripe pineapple). (Edited)
A rant/warning to share...
I know that not all modern kids are keen on fruits and veg but ours is and this didn't work out when our local school had served them unripe pineapples for desert.
We all know that fresh pineapples have that mouth tingling effect when eaten. This is due to the enzyme bromelain contained in pineapples and it attacks proteins. Ripe pineapples have little of it left with higher does still concentrated in the central core, cooked or frozen pineapples have pretty much none. High concentration of this enzyme is present in unripe pineapple's flesh and the most in the core. The school has served green pineapple quarters with core bits still on them. So, for the pineapple eater who had no clue this was a bad experience to be had. Stomach cramps and mildly loose stool (this is clearly different to stomach bugs when you know the difference).
So, if your kids are fruit lovers, do let them know that what looks unripe is better not be eaten and especially so for pineapples. -
My friend and I get the Annual National Art Pass but this year she doesn't want it. Her subscription for the card (bought as a double card) costs £55 as against the £70 for an individual card. Is there any lady who would like to take this card and pay £15 less? Otherwise I'll send this back. I have until the 14th March. So the quicker I know, the better.

Having read an article on BBC ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-47320673 ) about a new great idea to cut UK emissions. Just wondering where are those "geniuses" who suggest new laws come from? So, photovoltaic revolution had come to zilch, wind farms are too noisy and ugly, nuclear power is dirty and dangerous, coal power is dirty, rubbish burning is dirty... AHA!!! Let's make all new houses use ELECTRICITY to cut emissions!!! Now, where did these imbeciles have found natural deposits of electricity? Ah, sorry, I forgot! Everything is full of electrons, let's just plug wires into the ground and they (electrons) would run up to our homes to power our gadgets.
-
Just a grumble... Recently I've discovered that I've got iron overload in my body. Having tried to cut on iron-added foods I've found to my horror that it is a really hard thing to do. Turns out all UK flour has to be iron fortified. Drinks are iron fortified. All symptom checks and adverts seem to assume low iron and suggest upping intake. Then recently I've come across a BBC article on iron overload being a new hidden epidemic.
If anyone tells you that you need to increase your ire intake without taking blood tests then DON'T do it just on their suggestion. Good chances that you may be doing more harm to your body than good. Especially true to guys as we don't have any natural ways to lose iron from our bodies. -

Tech chat about @gmail.com addresses bouncing messages.
Hi tech gang,
I've come across an interesting case today and wonder if anyone has seen anything along the same lines.
1and1 has renamed itself into Ionos. Not sure if this is related but a whole organisation that uses their servers to host their domain and emails is experiencing a strange problem with a first email to any @gmail.com address going through but any subsequent ones are bounced with "multiple delivery attempts failed" message.
Ionos blame Google (who is the likely culprit here) but did anyone see other SMTP servers exhibit the same issue (not just the IONOS)? -

Labour MP for Battersea, Marsha de Cordova comes out in support of a People's Vote!
Hi all, just wanted to let you all know some news about our local MP Marsha de Cordova who, after a meeting on Monday evening with Labour colleagues, came out for the first time in support of a second referendum.
Before anyone says that ‘this isn’t the place’, I'd imagine Scooploop guidelines allow for LOCAL information and events related to politics (like Next Door) and I am not using this post to argue for any particular Brexit position.
I’ve had a fairly regular dialogue with Marsha ever since she was elected, often to remind her that there are many people who aren’t Corbyn fans in the slightest, perhaps wouldn’t normally even vote Labour, but did so tactically in 2017, to achieve precisely the sort of Parliamentary impasse that might lead to a second vote.
I’m delighted at this development, and thought a few of my neighbours might share this view. If so, can I suggest that it couldn’t hurt to drop Marsha a brief note of thanks for her representation - marsha.decordova.mp@parliament.uk - , particularly given that there appears to be a considerable majority among Labour voters, members and MPs for a second vote but the leadership appear to be dragging their feet in terms of honouring the promise made at their conference.
For those who may not know, that promise was that, in the event of losing a vote of no confidence, policy would be that ‘all options are on the table including a peoples vote’. I struggle to see what the other options could be, but if anyone has some ideas, I’d be interested to hear them. Likewise this article below on Marsha’s statement is a little old now (Monday PM) so if you have any more recent sources, or examples of other Labour MPs making similar assertions, please post them in the comments.
https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/labour-shadow-ministers-clive-lewis-and-marsha-de-cordova-back-second-referendum_uk_5c3c97d0e4b0922a21d6e5e9
One of the reasons for posting this is that Marsha was not mentioned in many of the articles I’ve read about the 71 MPs who signed a joint letter to the leadership on Tuesday this week – this may of course be corrected in due course but I thought it important that as many of her constituents as possible knew her position on this matter.
I don't think the saying 'A week is a long time in politics' was ever more apposite -

Shrinkflation is an act of war against the war on plastic waste!
Once every 6 month I buy a bundle of dishwasher powder. Finish is a great brand that seems to be the only one still making loose detergent powder for domestic dishwasher. Every bottle has 1 Kg of this powder. However, I just can't find any justification like the illfamouse "protecting the product" to underfill bottles unless it is JUST TO SELL MORE bottles, pointlessly producing even more unnecessary plastic waste. See for yourself. 6 bottles (6KG of powder) happily fill 4 bottles, leaving 2 bottles just pointless waste!
This is of course just one of the many examples. The shrinkflation is not a harmless fooling of customers, it is a real and intentional excessive waste production! -

How are you celebrating and what are you having for festivities? (Edited)
Inspired by a post from Citizen W, I've decided to rephrase the question a little to include not only Christmas but all annual national and traditional festivities, whatever the season.
So, how about a few replies with pics (of course) of the foods that are reserved for the special occasion?
I come from the different background than the UK dominant and my festivities have no started yet. My family celebrate the New Year (need to say that 25th of the 12th is still not ignored fore the kids in the family want to keep up with their school friends for presents).
Our Christmas actually comes 2 weeks later due to some historic church infighting but hey, who needs to wait?! Let's celebrate all that offers the opportunity! So, I'm going to start with a picture of our tree with foods to follow when the time comes. -
Wishing everyone on this forum a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Good health and happiness to all. -
Pickpockets don't conform to stereotypical looks...
My wife's friend has caught red-handed a pickpocket who was trying to nick her purse from her bag in Zara (central London).
She felt that her bag had suddenly moved when it was not expected and she quickly pushed her opposite side hand into her bag without turning where she grabbed someone else's hand already holding her purse. It was a posh-looking, well groomed and expensively accessorised Far-East woman. Obviously she had not been very professional in her enterprise and had greatly miscalculated many things, including the strength of the purse owner. She was handed over to the shop security and this is where my extent of the story ends.
Be vigilant and grab unexpected hands strong... ;) -

Anyone have a small fridge they no longer need?
I'm looking for an 'under the counter' sized small fridge as our current one has just given out. That one itself was from a house clearance and has lasted us nearly 5 years - we're big on re-use, recycle, make do and mend etc :) - so we don't mind how scruffy it is, as long as it works! can collect almost anytime, ideally looking for close to Wandsworth SW18. Thanks in advance if you can help!
