A Labour MP made almost £30,000 from a taxpayer-funded housing scheme criticised by his party as a “lucrative money-spinning opportunity”.
The sector has faced sustained criticism for enabling landlords to profit from housing vulnerable people, in poor-quality accommodation.
The MP, who was elected in 2024, has declared interests in eight properties, including five residential homes and three commercial units.
In 2024, Rushanara Ali, the homelessness minister at the time, told the House of Commons that the Government would take “firm action” against “the suffering caused by poor-quality supported housing where residents receive little or no support and landlords charge huge rents paid for by the taxpayer”.
Ms Ali herself resigned in August last year after reports alleged she evicted tenants and significantly raised rents on her London property!!!
Last year, Labour’s homelessness minister was forced to resign after serving her own tenants with a no-fault eviction notice.

A 'false flag' refers to an attack that was intended to look as though it was carried out by an opponent, but was actually staged by the victimised group themselves. Ms Olawoyin later shared news of the arrest of two men in connection with the attack and added: 'I can say with almost absolute certainty that the men arrested are white, probably even Jewish, because we all know for a fact that if they weren’t their names and pictures would be EVERYWHERE.' Row as Sadiq Khan gives Notting Hill Carnival extra £4.6m that could have kept police stations open. Mayor’s emergency funding to prevent overcrowding and criminality ensures the carnival can continue. It means City Hall will provide more than £5.6 million of funding – the bulk of which will be spent to ensure crowd control and the safety of revellers - to enable the carnival to be held. This is about £1.5 million more than City Hall spends each year on the New Year’s Eve fireworks. Last year the Met has already announced plans to keep only two out of 37 police stations – at Charing Cross and Lewisham – open to the public on a 24/7 basis. Susan Hall, leader of the City Hall Conservatives, who has repeatedly raised concerns about the level of violence at Notting Hill Carnival, said: “This money could have saved the two police counters in Kensington & Chelsea from closure, along with others across London - but instead will be given as a blank cheque to Notting Hill Carnival.” Last year’s carnival saw 423 arrests and two stabbings, but far fewer incidents of serious violence than in recent years, according to the Metropolitan Police. Last year the mayor also had to step in after a warning that it could be cancelled without “urgent funding”. This came after a review of the 2024 festival identified “critical public safety concerns”. He must make sure he keeps his voters happy. -

In the 30-second clip, he can be seen holding a "Farage 10" shirt, signing a shirt, and sitting in the home dressing room in front of three "Farage 10" shirts hanging behind him. Sebastian Coe is being urged by the Tories to take on Sir Sadiq Khan at the next London mayor election. It comes after polling suggested the former Olympic champion could be the best chance the Conservatives have to defeat Labour and launch a revival in the capital. The poll of 2,000 Londoners, first reported by the Daily Mail, showed Lord Coe, a four-time Olympic medal winner, had a favourability rating 19 points higher than the current London Mayor. The polling suggests Lord Coe has a net favourability rating of plus 13. Crucially, his support extends beyond Tory voters to both Labour and Reform backers. By contrast, Sir Sadiq's overall rating is minus six. Only Labour voters having a positive view of the current mayor, the polling suggests. Green leader and London assembly member Zack Polanski and Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey had a plus six rating. Looks promising. -

They do love a gravy train the hypocrites Ed Miliband and his entourage spent more than £800,000 on trip to COP30 environment summit in Brazil Taxpayers spent more than £800,000 on the trip by Ed Miliband and his massive team to the UN climate summit. New figures have revealed that 73 delegates from the UK's net zero department attended COP30 in Brazil last autumn, led by Labour’s Energy Secretary. Their plane travel alone cost the public £210,450, with £6,091 more spent on carbon credits to offset the emissions produced during the flights. And they spent a staggering £600,740 renting private apartments during the two-week conference because prices had been hiked in host city Belém, along with £1,660 on hotel rooms. Another £28,025 was spent on miscellaneous expenses by the delegation but the total cost will be higher as 13 of them have not yet put their claims in. As the Mail revealed last year, Mr Miliband made two trips to Brazil for COP30 - at the start and end of the summit - and was spotted dining at a luxury restaurant at the top of the five-star Tivoli hotel in Belém. Sir Keir Starmer and his team from No 10 also went on a whistlestop trip to the summit, the costs of which have not yet been published. It will add to anger at Mr Miliband, who has refused to help ease Britain’s sky-high energy costs – now rocketing still further as a result of the war in the Middle East – by allowing new drilling for oil and gas under the North Sea. The COP30 summit was also branded a waste of time and money by some as it was boycotted by leaders from three of the world’s biggest emitters – the US, China and India. Even Mr Miliband admitted afterwards ‘it is true that Britain wanted more from this COP, including a roadmap for the transition to renewable energy, but ‘this didn’t happen because some countries would not agree. But hey, let's go anyway and have a busmans holiday on the taxpayer! The Government should stop sending so many civil servants jet-setting around the globe to lecture the rest of us on emissions, especially when the cost is so high. -

Two 'Iranian spies' are arrested after 'trying to enter Faslane nuclear naval base' Two Iranians have been arrested for trying to enter Britain's Faslane nuclear naval base. The 34-year-old suspect, accompanied by a female, 31, were in a vehicle when approaching a gate at HM Naval Base Clyde in Scotland. The pair lacked the right passes to enter and were turned away, it has been reported - before being detained after 'acting suspiciously in the vicinity'. The naval base is the Royal Navy's headquarters in Scotland and is home to Britain's nuclear submarines including the Vanguard vessels armed with Trident missiles. A Royal Navy spokesman said: 'Police Scotland have arrested two people who unsuccessfully attempted to enter HM Naval Base Clyde on Thursday 19 March. The Self Serving grifter. Police are investigating Peter Mandelson over emails he sent to Jeffrey Epstein about a €500 billion Eurozone bailout, according to Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley. Britain’s top police officer said that the email represented a “potential criminal offence”. In the latest release of the Epstein files, Lord Mandelson appeared to confirm a yet-to-be-announced €500bn bailout of the Euro, prompting claims he had leaked sensitive government information. “With Peter Mandelson, the former ambassador [to the US], there is a particular email to do with the bailout after the financial crash I think in 2008-09,” he said. “It looks like it was shared with Epstein. We are looking at that. Sir Mark said that an investigation into Lord Mandelson’s contact with the disgraced financier and child sex offender would be conducted “without fear or favour”. The investigation into Mandelson also concerns his contact with Epstein during his time as business secretary in Gordon Brown’s government. Before that, he served as European Commissioner for Trade between 2004 and 2008. He was referred to the European Union’s anti-fraud agency last month following the controversy. -

Cypriot president demands talks with UK over future of military bases The president of Cyprus has said he will have an “open and frank discussion with the British government” over the future of the UK military bases located in Cyprus. Nikos Christodoulides described the bases as being a “colonial consequence” and said the Cypriot government has a responsibility to the 10,000 citizens living within the bases amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East. “We have a responsibility to those people ... we are going to have an open and frank discussion with the British government.” Asked whether he wants rid of the bases, he said that “we have a clear approach with regard to the future of the British bases”, adding, “I am sure that you understand that I am not going to comment in public”. Questions over the future of the Cypriot bases would pile pressure on Sir Keir Starmer, who is already facing criticism over his decision to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius. It is an attempt to influence someone's vote in the polling booth and has become a particular concern in parts of the country with high Muslim populations where husbands culturally take a lead over their wives. During the recent Gorton and Denton by-election, which saw the Green Party win 40.7% of the vote, concerns were raised by Democracy Volunteers, a group of observers who check the voting processes are being followed. The Electoral Commision said it took claims "very seriously" and is now in contact with police to "carefully consider" the report. Research showed 5% of voters observed in Tower Hamlets were involved in family voting. Around 85% of those affected were women from Asian backgrounds. Despite initially saying they would keep the guidance, Labour has since pledged to remove it which has led to accusations that party leaders no longer see tackling voter fraud as a priority. In 2015, former Chancellor Angela Merkel opened the door to more than 1 million refugees fleeing the Syrian civil war and in doing so sparked a migrant crisis from which Europe has never recovered. Now, more than a decade later, she has told those who settled in Germany to vote against politicians who want to stop others from following in their footsteps. She urged people with a “migration background” to join forces with those who do not align themselves with the country’s Right parties and “stand together”. It was not long ago that Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood sought to strike a hardline on illegal immigration, admitting it is “tearing our country apart”. And in one staggering operational blunder, Ethiopian national and asylum seeker Hadush Kebatu, jailed after sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and a woman while living in an asylum hotel in Epping, was mistakenly freed. Keir Starmer has, inevitably, branded Mr Farage, quite possibly his successor, “racist” for suggesting that axing a right to indefinite leave to remain is “immoral”. Many law-abiding and hard-working people are sick and fed up at how it appears the red carpet continues to be rolled out for those who have entered the UK illegally. Mr Farage should not be accused of racism for suggesting a scorched Earth policy to tackle the deepening crisis, even though a great many reasonable Britons would disagree. The UK is, and always has been, a welcoming country which for decades has provided sanctuary, safety, and security for those in genuine need. But a great many ordinary folk feel they are being taken for an enormous ride. -

British Muslims prefer Iran Russia and China to US, poll finds. The new report, published by the Policy Exchange think tank, found British Muslims hold vastly different views on foreign policy compared to the general population. "Who da thought it, I wonder secretly what they think of Britain" Polling firm JL Partners also found that 45 per cent of British Muslims believe Iran was not a significant threat before the US-Israel airstrikes, despite Tehran-backed sleeper agents attempting to carry out 20 terror plots on British soil since 2022. There was a similar disparity when respondents were asked if they held positive or negative views on Iran, with 39 per cent of British Muslims being favourable to Tehran and the number slumping to just eight per cent among the general public. Dr Rakib Ehsan, author of the Policy Exchange report 'Worlds Apart: British Muslim Attitudes on the Iran Conflict', said: “The data shows that modern Britain is anything but on the same page in terms of how it views the Iran conflict and the wider international system. As well as being notably more hostile towards the United States and Israel, British Muslims hold much warmer feelings towards Iran than the wider public do. "Part of their overarching anti-Americanism is their dramatically less negative views on China and Russia, revealing a broader scepticism of Western geopolitics." The public now fears tensions in the Middle East will worsen ethno-religious tensions in modern Britain. Two-in-five members of the UK public warned the conflict in Iran made race relations worse. Despite the Al Quds march being banned, protesters were chanting, 'Khamenei make us proud' from the river to the sea and 'Death to the IDF'. Reform UK today vowed to cut £200 from the averge family's energy bill by scrapping VAT and cutting green levies. 👏👏👏 Nigel Farage's party said removing the 5 per cent rate of VAT on energy bills would save households around £85 a year. It also outlined how axing the renewables obligation and carbon price support tax would save another £115. Robert Jenrick, Reform's Treasury spokesman, said it was 'outrageous' that while Brits face soaring bills, the Government is 'slapping £200 worth of levies and taxes on the price of energy'. 'Reform is on the side of hard-up people, so we will completely scrap the heating tax,' he said. Mr Farage claimed Net Zero had 'led to skyrocketing energy bills for working people', adding: 'Tax after tax has been added to bills without a second thought given to cost of living.' Reform said its measures would be funded by a 7.5 per cent cut to the budgets of unprotected arm's length bodies, known as quangos, which the party claimed would save £2.5billion per year in 2029/30. Mr Farage said the promise to cut VAT on energy bills was a 'Brexit bonus' as he argued Britain would not be able to take such action if it was still part of the EU. YouGov shown to be deliberately bias. YouGov has backed down in a row with Nigel Farage after the Reform leader accused the pollster of underplaying his party’s popularity. The polling company has agreed to change the way it publishes its results after Mr Farage accused the firm of being “deceptive”. It consistently placed Reform around five percentage points lower than other surveys on Westminster voting intention. He said the company was breaking transparency rules set out by the opinion polling watchdog and, after a lengthy public row, YouGov has backed down. Nigel Farage told The Telegraph: “YouGov were deliberately giving a misleading picture and I’m pleased to say that, because of our complaint, it will now be corrected. The British Polling Council should not allow this behaviour.” YouGov is arguably Britain’s best-known political pollster and the fact that it was showing a much smaller lead for Reform over Labour, the Conservatives and the Greens than rival polling firms. Mr Farage took issue with the fact that YouGov did not also publish the underlying data on which party people favoured at a national level. A leading pollster from another polling firm said: “This is a pretty major shift from YouGov. From an industry standpoint, it is definitely welcome news: the modelling they are doing is unusual, so the more transparency on that the better.” They are trying desperately to underplay the popularity of Reform. -

A mother whose daughter was murdered by an illegal Channel migrant has blamed Sir Keir Starmer, saying that she has been handed a “life sentence”. Siobhan Whyte wants to know why Deng Chol Majek, a Sudanese migrant, was allowed to remain in Britain after being refused asylum in Germany and Italy, where he landed. In a premeditated act of violence, he stabbed her 27-year-old daughter, Rhiannon, a mother herself, to death after stalking her from the asylum hotel where she worked. “Why was he denied asylum but allowed here? Surely that should have been looked into?” She is demanding that ministers close the borders to illegal migrants to prevent a repeat of what happened to Rhiannon. “Starmer wants to go out there and apologise to Epstein’s victims but I don’t care. What about our women and children? What about my daughter? What about my grandson who’s got to grow up without a mother?” she said. Asked what message she would have for the Prime Minister, she said: “I would want to know why he’s still allowing it. I know it was the government before him but why is he not stopping it? He’s allowing them to take over our country and, in the meantime, they’ve taken my daughter. So I blame him for that. “The government should close the borders and send them back. Why are they coming over here? I know, it’s because the UK will give everything freely. But I’ve got to live with this for the rest of my life.
