What do you need to know about the most common uncommon pest in London?

Everyone knows about rats and bed bugs. We don’t have to tell you too much about these pests and explain how they can cause trouble around your London home. Although, there are some pests that you are likely unfamiliar with and they can cause great damages.

Today, we are going to tell you how to identify some of the most common uncommon pests here in London. Not many people know about these pests until they begin to notice them around their homes and businesses.

      Silverfish
Fish inside my home? Calm yourself down, silverfish are in facts insects despite their odd shapes. Typically silverfish are most known for their love of everything and anything that is related to moisture. If you find silverfish that is a clear indication that you have problems with excess moisture. Keep in mind that moisture issues can lead to carpenter ants and oriental cockroaches.

      Carpet Beetle

Carpet beetles prefer carpets and textiles made from wool or with some content of wool. If you notice tiny black spots don`t assume it is sock fluff-because you could have carpet beetle infestation. Carpet beetles may be small as a pencil nib but they can be highly destructive, capable of damaging your carpet, rugs and furniture.

      Indian Meal Moths
Indian Meal Moth can do everything to contaminate the food in your pantry.
As a matter of fact, when Indian Meal Moths get into homes, the first thing they do is to look for your dry food storage, the perfect place for laying their eggs. Sometimes they even lay their eggs in packages even before they reach your home. The best you can do to avoid that type of pests is to carefully check the packages before buying.

How can you keep these pests out of your London Home?

Most of the above pests can be prevented by addressing moisture issues and fixing cracks around your home. If you are looking for ways to eliminate these pests or just keep them away from your home, the professionals here at Archers Pest Control would be happy to help out. Our qualified pest control technicians have the tools and equipment to handle any type of pest your home is up against.

      Running for dogs in need

We've set our rescue pup, Molly, a 5km Dog Jog challenge in Victoria Park on 28th October. We're running to raise awareness of and fundraise for Chilterns Dog Rescue Society (CDRS), which matched us with Molly.

We adopted Molly, a border terrier cross, in January and are active campaigners for #adoptdontshop, a movement to encourage people to consider adopting before buying.

“There are many reasons to adopt, not least because you’re saving a life. Too many dogs come into rescue shelters and too few people consider adoption. With shelters bursting at the seams, lots of dogs are put down. When you adopt, you open up a space for another dog who desperately needs it.”

In our search to adopt, we were looking for an active breed which we could run with and were matched with Molly due to her abundant energy. Molly hadn’t had a bad experience but was simply too much for her first owners to handle. This is a common story in rescue shelters. Most have ended up there because of a human problem like moving house, divorce or people being unprepared, not because the dog did anything wrong. We're keen to highlight that rescue shelters are full of happy, healthy dogs waiting for a second chance.

“About 21 dogs are euthanised in shelters across the UK every day.” – PETA

At 11 months old, this will be Molly’s first running event, and we're taking training slow and steady as she’s still growing. We're documenting Molly's training journey via Instagram and have been chosen as Dog Jog vloggers to share her mini victories and stumbles ahead of the big day. Ultimately, we want to give back to CDRS; a charity that does so much for dogs in need.

We'd love your support. Please sponsor Molly’s incredible efforts via JustGiving:

Your donation will give abandoned and unwanted dogs a happy future, just like Molly.

A safe, enclosed dog park in South Woodford - what do you think? (Edited)

Hello! I'm a passionate dog owner, and keen to give our little rescue pup Molly lots of opportunities for learning and socialisation.

What are your thoughts on dog parks?: https://goo.gl/forms/XxKkxLsOPCZYRCoA3

We're based in South Woodford and have yet to find a safe, enclosed space/park where Molly can run off lead. I'm very interested to hear thoughts from dog owners/walkers/trainers on designing and building a safe dog park in the local area.

I've created a survey (link above) to gather thoughts, experiences and ideas - would love to hear from you. If you could also share within your doggy networks, that would be fantastic!

      Thank you!
