AH 1970 - the year I met Mrs SFG and got engaged. It was a great summer from May through to July. I was made redundant and decided to join the Civil Service - the Ministry of Posts & Telecoms as then existed following nationalisation of the old GPO. The day I started work was when Ted Heath's Government took over and the first Minister of P&T was Sir Christopher Chataway. Lots of memorable hits from that great summer - one of our favourites was All right now by Free.
Other hits of 1970:
In the summertime - Mungo Jerry
Gooving with Mr Blo - Mr Blo
The wonder of you - Elvis
Events
Bobby Moore was arrested in Colombia for suspected theft
Brazil won World Cup
The first Glastonbury festival was held

Musically, 1969 was the year that a number of lead singers left their groups to form super groups. Most lasted only briefly such as:
- Blind Faith (Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker)
- Humble Pie (Steve Marriott, Peter Frampton)
One that lasted a bit longer was Crosby Stills and Nash (later and Young).
But for me 1969 stands out as the year that Creedence Clearwater Revival burst on the scene with Proud Mary. And as the year that Crystal Palace FC made it to the top League for the first time.
Films in 1969:
- (my favourite film of all time) Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
- Midnight Cowboy
- Alice's Restaurant
- Prime of Miss Jean Brodie
Any favourites of yours from that year?

1968 was a bit of an in-between year musically. The biggest UK hit was Mary Hopkins' Those were the days. It was the year when it became acceptable to have singles over 5/6 minutes long - most successfuly McArthur Park by Richard Harris and Eloise by Barry Ryan (featured below). Paul and Barry Ryan were twins and their mother was Marian Ryan who those of us of greater years will remember from Spot the tune on TV. Paul Ryan wrote Eloise as well as I will drink the wine by Frank Sinatra. He died of lung cancer aged 44 - Barry is still around now aged 70.
Films of 1968:
- Bullitt
- Rosemary's baby
- Planet of the apes

If you give more than 7 answers only the first 7 will count.
So first off and to demonstrate can you guess which are the 7 counties that have a border with Leicestershire? -
Reminiscing - 1967 (Edited)
What were you doing during the Summer of Love. I was working in a drawing office in St James SW1 near Caxton Hall. The drawing boars used to shake when two tubes passed at the same time on the Circle/District Line beneath the building.
A lot of things about 1967 seemed to centre on San Francisco. There was a big march against the Vietnam war. Mohammed Ali was banned from boxing for 3 years after refusing to do military service.
Elvis married Priscilla and the Beatles released St Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Album.

On to 1965. In the charts, Elvis had his last No 1 hit until 1970 with Crying in the Chapel. And the Righteous Brothers burst on the scene with my Dad's favourite You've lost that lovin' feeling. In 1965 I was working as an apprentice draftsman in Lower Marsh, Waterloo.

1964 was the year that saw many British groups hitting the charts such as the Animals, the Kinks, the Hollies and Herman's Hermits. All the UK no 1 hits were by British artists with the sole exception of Roy Orbison (It's over and Oh prertty woman). Among the groups topping the charts was the Searchers.

What memories of 1964 do you have (if any of course!)? For me, I remember a holiday with some mates in Butlins at Bogner and playing table tennis with Mick (the drummer from Dave Dee Dozy etc) when they were Dave Dee and the Bostons and were playing regularly on the Butlins circuit. -
