The Thanet Youth and Community Centre

The Thanet runs a free Youth Club for local young people aged 8-14 years. Activities are user-lead, and focused around our tagline of Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Healthy Friendships. We do sports-based activities include boxing, indoor and outdoor ball games, gym and dance and creative activities including theatre and puppetry. Our projects are interactively educational; Gardening teaches science and biodiversity awareness, Supper Club supports literacy and numeracy, embedding life-skills, independence and healthier lifestyle choices. Each session the children plan, prepare and share a healthy meal, using food they have grown themselves and fresh produce from our local organic vegetable scheme.

The Thanet also hosts a range of activities for the whole community, including weekly Coffee Morning for those aged 50+, MS group, Bengali Women’s Arabic Study Group, Labour Party meetings, three Cocaine Anonymous groups, a monthly Sewing Hub, pay-what-you-can yoga, capoeira, aikido, Castellers, hip-hop dance, older people’s ballet, a fashion project and a bicycle maintenance training for young people. We rent our space to Vegbox, costumiers Bang, Woodentots Montessori Nursery and a range of theatre, opera and dance groups.
