HS2 is the largest infrastructure project in Europe; conceived to significantly increase railway capacity by moving fast trains from the East Coast, West Coast, and Midland main lines. The project has attracted more than its fair share of controversy: critics will cite ballooning costs and environmental impact; proponents will argue the need for network improvements, the jobs created, and the benefits to the public and the economy. Whatever your viewpoint, HS2 is more than just a high-speed railway line.

Keith Hoffmeister, a member of the Chiltern Society, has been photographing the HS2 route ever since the plans were first revealed in 2010. He covered the whole route from Euston to Birmingham and published a DVD in 2012 as part of the Stop HS2 campaign.
