At 2 hrs 17 mins I was expecting this Russian drama to be somewhat tedious, based on a book and set on the frozen rivers and canals of St Petersburg.
I was pleasantly surprised at its gradual build up into a romantic fantasy adventure .
A young petty thief wins the heart of an aristocrats daughter but they are kept apart.
The first part may seem slow but the tension builds and the second half is full of surprises.
And most of this is on skates
