Should Iran be kicked out of the World Cup?
This is what some people on social media are demanding because of the ongoing protests and demonstrations about women's rights. Mainly about having to wear the hijab. I totally support the protests and would love to see the Iranian government overthrown, but this is no reason to throw out the national football team from the World Cup. Iran hasn't invaded another country unlike Russia, this is a completely internal issue.
The other demand by the twitterati is that Iran is replaced by Ukraine. This is just daft. If Iran was ejected they should be replaced by the country that finished behind them in their Asian qualifying group. Which was the United Arab Emirates.
