Illustrated talk: Crossrail is a new railway line under central London. Its route runs from Reading and Heathrow in the west, to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east, using 42kms of new tunnels.

Since project approval in 2007, Christian Wolmar has closely followed the construction of the line, and visited many of the construction sites. His book, "The Story of Crossrail" was due to be published shortly before the anticipated opening of the line in 2018...

Some four years later, the Elizabeth Line – as it is now known – is finally (almost) fully open. Wolmar has published a revised and expanded edition of his book to record the many tribulations, delays and cost increases that beset the project over those years.

Christian Wolmar is an award-winning writer and broadcaster specialising in transport and is the author of a series of books on railway history. He is acknowledged as one of the UK's leading commentators on transport matters, and we are delighted that he is making a welcome return visit to The Manor.

    All are welcome.

    See you there!

Please see website (swrs.co.uk) for location and further information, including admission prices and parking charges at the station car park. (There is no post code for our meeting place, but the website has detailed guidance!)

Remember that The Manor is easy to reach by train or bus, and is but a short walk from the town centre car parks.
