    Which -- warning

Action Fraud has warned that scammers are infiltrating WhatsApp groups.

This 'account takeover' scam starts with the scammer gaining access to an account on your contacts list. They then pose as the contact in messages to you.

Around the same time, you'll receive a six-digit authentication code from WhatsApp. The scammer will claim they sent you their code by accident and ask you to share it with them.

Once the criminal has your code, they can log into your WhatsApp account and lock you out.

Action Fraud has received 268 reports of this scam since January and says fraudsters are targeting religious and community groups.

Make sure you set up two-step verification on WhatsApp your account and never share a verification code.
