Murder
CHARGED: Officers investigating the death of Barnsley man Richard Dyson, who went missing in 2019, have charged a man with his murder.
Christopher Wright, 72, of Sheffield Road, Hoyland, has been remanded to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Friday 7 November) charged with murder.
Wright has also been charged with preventing the lawful and decent burial of a body, as well as 27 firearms offences including possessing a prohibited weapon and possessing firearms without a certificate.
A second suspect, a 72-year-old man from Barnsley, who has previously been arrested in connection with the investigation, was re-arrested on suspicion of murder today ( Thursday 6 November). He was brought into custody for questioning and has since been released on police bail.
Richard was 55 when he was reported missing from Barnsley in November 2019. In July this year, human remains were discovered on a property in Broadcarr Road. These were sadly later confirmed to be Richard. A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death was shotgun wounds.
Richard's family has been informed of the developments in this case and continues to be supported by our officers.
