Some people feel that to criticise your own country is wrong, unpatriotic, and somehow lacking in gratitude for all the good things we enjoy. They also frequently suggest that somehow it’s a failing of ‘the left’.
I take a different view. I believe it is better to be truthful about the bad things, own up to them, pay any dues and, in that way, we can be truly free to enjoy our country and be proud of it.
