    Beware accepting a smart meter from an energy company

    I'd had no idea until this morning that a smart meter can be remotely switched from standard to prepayment mode, with disastrous results for those least able to go out and charge up some gizmo in whatever few shops offer that facility.
    The scope for abuse - let alone sheer carelessness - is huge and this has obviously already been happening on a large scale.
