New data released by Action Fraud reveals £6.7 million was lost to ticket fraud last year. https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ticketfraud Action Fraud, the national fraud and cybercrime reporting service, has launched a ticket fraud awareness campaign, warning people to be alert to fraudsters trying to catch out people planning for popular and sold-out events. Last year more than 8,700 people reported they had been a victim ticket fraud, with a total of £6.7 million lost. This works out to an average loss of £772 per victim. How to protect yourself from ticket fraud: Only buy tickets from the venue’s box office, the promoter, an official agent or a well-known and reputable ticket exchange site. Avoid paying for tickets by bank transfer, especially if buying from someone unknown. Credit card or payment services such as PayPal give you a better chance of recovering the money if you become a victim of fraud. The password you use for your email account, as well as any other accounts you use to purchase tickets, should be different from all your other passwords. Use three random words to create a strong and memorable password, and enable 2-step verification (2SV). Be wary of unsolicited emails, texts or adverts offering unbelievably good deals on tickets. Is the vendor a member of Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR)? If they are, the company has signed up to their strict governing standards. STAR also offers an approved Alternative Dispute Resolution service to help customers with outstanding complaints. For more information visit star.org.uk/buy_safe. Report ticket fraud If you feel at all suspicious, report the email to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS) at report@phishing.gov.uk. For more advice on how to stay secure online, please visit cyberaware.gov.uk. Find out how to protect yourself from fraud: https://stopthinkfraud.campaign.gov.uk If you live in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and have been a victim of fraud or cybercrime, report it at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040. In Scotland, victims of fraud and cybercrime should report to Police Scotland on 101. Message Sent By Action Fraud (Action Fraud, Administrator, National)

@adler I hope you read the link I posted yesterday ( https://www.scooploop.com/thread/to-be-or-not-to-be ) because in that thread I gave you the opportunity to show evidence that what you stated about people who are bullied was a scientifically proven fact. For your reference what you stated was: "you can only be bullied if you are a wimp, and allow yourself to be bullied." I, of course, pointed out and gave you evidence that bullies use victim shaming as an excuse for their actions and that is why I asked you to you to supply me with a scientific/medical or governmental paper which has been fully peer reviewed and which categorically states only wimps can be bullied and that the victim of bullying allows it to happen Have a little look at this link: https://www.scooploop.com/thread/to-be-or-not-to-be#comment_471589 In it you will see mention to someone else regarding prevarication. Almost identical to the words you used to me and yet my request for evidence from you was made on February 29th. Who is prevaricating? Quite a few times now you have stated you consider me to be conceited. You even stated: You are always telling people things, your smug conceit is unbelievable...” Now is your chance to show the evidence you have to make those claims about conceit. So that I know exactly what you are discussing, I would like you to provide me with the link to each comment where you feel that I have shown conceit. I will look at those specific comments and respond to you. Please be aware that I will not accept ifs, buts or maybes as an answer, I want to see evidence that without provocation I have shown conceit.

There were two prawns, James and Christian, swimming along the bottom of the ocean. James accidentally rubbed up against an old lantern and whoosh, a genie appeared and granted James two wishes. After a moment's thought James decided that he wanted to become a shark to gain the respect of all the creatures of the sea. Whoosh.............James became shark and swam off. Two weeks later James was upset. All of his old friends were now afraid of him and his life was miserable. He decided to use his second wish, and he wished to be a prawn once again. Whoosh....he was a prawn again, James swam away to look for his mate Christian. When he arrived at Christian's house he knocked on the door and shouted out for Christian. "Go away", says Christian, "you're a shark and you'll just eat me". "No I won't", shouted James, "I'm now a prawn again Christian".

Olivia Coleman was, quite rightly, on the news yesterday claiming that female actors are paid less money than men. The thing is that the gift to deal with it is in the hands of her and all the other female actors. There are very few films, television shows and stage shows where the cast is entirely male. Having a quick thought I can come up with "Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing". Undoubtedly there will be others you can think of, but comparatively few overall. What surprises me about Olivia's statement is that she hasn't said what she wants to do about it. My suggestion would be to go on strike! If films,TV and stage are reliant on females, then withdraw your labour. The production companies will soon sit up and listen. Perhaps it could be called "We Too" as the aim is to pay the same as males get. Rather than just bewail it, i think she should deal with it!

My council, quite understandably, will not pick up our waste paper box if there is loose shredded paper inside. Obviously a small gust of wind during the time from box lid off to entry to their machine could mean shreds of paper all over the street rather like confetti. I save old cereal boxes. They can be collapsed whilst awaiting their final journey, which is when they are filled with shredded paper and sealed to prevent spillage. They are then placed in my collection box and two jobs are covered in one action. The shredded paper gets taken away safely and the cereal box also goes. Just a thought!

The local council in Bushey, Herts are stopping their "first hour free" system of parking and are introducing a charge of £1 for the first hour and raising charges for subsequent hours. How damaging do you feel this could be to the local shops? Would you feel that if you are paying a fee then you may as well go to a larger shopping area where there is probably more choice and perhaps lower prices? Do you feel that the new pricing system is likely to damage the local economy? I'm not picking on Bushey in particular as it's happening in many places and I'm just looking for general views on paying perhaps £2 for some milk but having to pay £1 to be able to park to buy it. Chanting and clapping as the body of Alexei Navalny arrived for his funeral. The crowd outside the church where the service is taking place have continued sending their message whilst the police are so far taking no overt action. The crowd have also chanted "No to war", "we will never forget" and "murderers", any of which could result in action bring taken against the chanters. Of course it is illegal to use the word "war" in Russia when referring to Ukraine. It's making me wonder if Putin is now regretting his murderous actions, as the world's press is watching and reporting on the scenes in Moscow. Undoubtedly many of the crowd will suffer for what they are now doing, but there will still be other Russians across their nation who could now feel empowered to get an underswell moving against Putin. To me it looks as though I'm supposed to contact them to let them know that the one time passcode has not been requested by me. That, of course will tell them the phone is active and open up two way communication. Instead, I've screenshot it in my list, (hence you being able to see it and in case there is an extremely remote chance it is genuine) I then deleted the SMS from the list, so there is no indication that it has been read.

This went into voicemail and I've now downloaded it, converted it to mp3, then mp4 adding subtitles on the way. I subsequently converted the Chinese to see what it said and it's similar(ish) to what they said in English. The number they used was 07822 599872. I couldn't find any trace of the number having been searched before, so presume it's just any random number they make up at the time.

🎆🎇🎆Remember remember the 5th of November!🎆🎇🎆 We're asking everyone in our community to also remember the laws and safety procedures around fireworks and bonfires to ensure everyone has an exciting and pleasant time. Police officers will be conducting patrols around and on the night, they will look to remind people of the legislation first and foremost, but will look to enforce if they see people knowingly breaking the law. Please keep in mind: 🔥 For most days of the year, it is illegal to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am, 🔥 On the 5th November only, the curfew will be extended to midnight, giving you an extra hour to enjoy the night. 🔥 Please bare in mind that for displays shortly before or after the 5th November, the usual legislation still applies, this includes the Friday and Saturday prior to bonfire night this Sunday. 🔥 It is illegal for under 18s to purchase any fireworks and shop staff must do their due diligence in challenging those who look under 21. 🔥 Under 18s are also not legally allowed to possess adult fireworks in a public places, items such as sparklers do not count as adult fireworks. 🔥 It is ideal to inform neighbours in advance if you will be letting off fireworks at home, particularly for those who are elderly or vulnerable, or have pets or infants. If you live near horses or other animals kept outdoors, it is best to approach the owners to let them know. We have confidence that most people know how to set off fireworks safely and responsibly, but for some refresher advice, please see the following links: British firework association website: Consumer Information - British Fireworks Association https://www.britishfireworksassociation.co.uk/firework-advice-for-consumers/ GOV.UK website Staying safe with fireworks - GOV.UK www.gov.uk UK Fire service: Bonfire Safety – UK Fire Service Resources https://www.fireservice.co.uk/safety/bonfires/ Safety advice on bonfires specifically: Bonfires London Fire Brigade (london-fire.gov.uk) https://www.london-fire.gov.uk/safety/the-home/bonfires/ TVP: Bonfire Night | Thames Valley Police https://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/police-forces/thames-valley-police/areas/c/2018/bonfire-night/

What is the Child Sexual Abuse Review Panel (CSARP)? If a victim or survivor reported allegations of child sexual offences before 5 June 2013 and the police or the CPS decided that no further action should be taken at the time, they can request that the Child Sexual Abuse Review Panel reconsider the decision, if they are not satisfied that the original allegations were dealt with appropriately. CSARP is a joint enterprise between the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Cases will be considered if: The report is about an alleged sexual offence against the victim or survivor; The victim or survivor is referring to a report previously made to the police about the sexual offence; A decision to take no further action was taken by the police or by the CPS; The alleged sexual offences was committed when the victim or survivor was under 18 years of age; The alleged offender may still pose a risk; The alleged offence was committed in England and Wales; The case was investigated and marked no further action by police or CPS before 5 June 2013. It is important to note that even if the victim or survivor has previously asked the police or the CPS to look at the decision they made previously, their case will still be considered. Yesterday I received a package I had ordered from a company called Grüum ( https://www.gruum.com/our-commitment-to-the-planet/ ). They are a new(ish) company from Manchester producing and selling skin products. When the package arrived it had a sticker on it telling me about the filling material inside the box. I'd not heard of it before so searched the Internet. I have no idea which company manufacture the filling, there were a few, but using the details on the label as my search criteria I found some similar products to what I was holding. I found out that if you soak the peanut it will biodegrade, so I tried it and had a sticky mess on my fingers, particularly after squeezing the water out. I then wondered where to put it to get rid of it. It wasn't plastic so recycling waa a no, no. It wasn't from the garden, so garden waste was out. It certainly wasn't paper based so that was out. It was made from cornstarch. Hmm! How about the food recycling? At that point I decided to ring the council, that's a long haul job! It was answered pretty quickly and I worked my way through all the option buttons until I was told I had reached destination. Good news! Then I was told how many others had reached it before me - and they were still waiting to be answered as well. Bad news! I stuck to it and eventually I was spoken to by a young sounding lady who actually listened when I explained that I didn't want to put them in land fill, nor any of the recycling options I had rejected. I told her about my search of the Internet and I was surprised she actually looked for the products. We had a good conversation about what she was looking at, after which she agreed that my conclusion was correct. I thanked her for confirming it and she said "No thank you for teaching me something new". She said the product had been news to her, but told me she would let the staff in Waste Management know that biodegradable peanuts were safe to put in the food bin. I just wish they had been real peanuts!

Thames Valley Police is seeing a high number of fraudulent offences involving the selling of items online and through social media. In the past 13 months, data provided by the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau shows that there have been 2,925 victims within the Thames Valley who have been targeted in this particular type of fraud. This is 21% of all different types of fraud which has resulted in losses of £2.3million. How does it happen? There are two different scenarios taking place: Victims are contacted by the suspects who show a real interest in the goods, attending the address to look at the item with a view of purchasing it. The suspect will obtain the victim’s bank details and show the victim their mobile phone which details the payment has been made via the banking app and then walk away with the goods. This is a fake banking app and the profile used and contact details are also fake. Please be mindful in these scenarios that you may be providing fraudsters with a lot of personal information, name, address, bank account. Be careful with how you protect your information. The other type of offending is online shopping where the suspect agrees to purchase the item but will not pay for the goods until proof of purchase has been provided to them. The victim will arrange for the parcel to be sent in the post and will provide the tracking number to the suspect. The suspect is then able to track or redirect the parcel. This results in the payment not being received and the parcel has gone. The addresses where the parcels are being sent to are either used for a day, or the parcel is redirected to another address resulting in the loss of the item which is at a cost to the victim. Prevention advice While it is difficult to spot potential fraudsters, there are some steps you can take to protect yourself and provide the police with evidence when reporting. Make sure you receive payment before sending the goods Carry out your research before parting with your items or money; how long have they been online? Are there any reviews or sellers feedback? Do they have many associates or linked groups? Always check your account online or ask your bank to make sure the funds have been received Take pictures of items before posting them Keep any video footage which can be shared with law enforcement Make a report to Action Fraud online Action Fraud or via telephone 0300 123 2040 Detective Inspector Duncan Wynn of the Thames Valley Police Central Fraud Unit said: “These are common scams which are occurring across the Thames Valley and the rest of the UK and we ask that the public become aware of these tactics to prevent them from being targeted in this way and being at a financial loss. “We are already seeing an increase in the number of calls we are receiving. As we start to look towards Christmas and shopping for gifts, we anticipate there will be a further increase in online shopping, which leaves shoppers more at risk of fake websites and profiles. We ask that people are always cautious and if in doubt, avoid going ahead with a sale. If something seems to be too good to be true, it probably is. If you believe you have fallen victim to fraud, please make a report to Action Fraud online or via telephone on 0300 123 2040.”

Operation Tramline was run by Thames Valley Police’s Roads Policing Joint Operations Unit in partnership with National Highways between 7 and 11 August. The road safety operation covered sections of the M40 and M25. Officers deployed an unmarked HGV tractor unit supplied and funded by National Highways to detect and deal with road traffic offences such as using a mobile phone while driving and not wearing a seatbelt. Operation Tramline targets all vehicles with the elevated position of the HGV cabs allowing police officers to drive alongside vehicles to film any unsafe driver behaviour taking place. Using the HGV enabled officers to not only detect offences being committed by private vehicles but also enabled them the opportunity to observe commercial vehicles that are sometimes more difficult to see into from patrol cars. During the week long operation a total of 104 traffic offence reports were issued to drivers for offences of driving whilst using a mobile phone, not wearing a seat belt, careless driving, registration plate not fitted, excessive window tints and driving whilst not in proper control. A car driver was also arrested on suspicion of driving whilst over the prescribed drug drive limit. Detective Chief Inspector Mike Bettington of the Roads Policing Joint Operational Unit said: "We see the huge, often tragic, impact of road traffic incidents every day, so we are always keen to find alternative ways to put a stop to the offences that cause such harm. By using the HGV we have been able to deal with motorists who are committing offences that are linked to the fatal four - not wearing a seatbelt, drink/drug driving, speeding and using a phone while driving." National Highways has a long-term ambition that no one should be harmed when travelling or working on the Strategic Road Network. Operation Tramline is helping to reinforce appropriate safe driving behaviour. Regional road Safety Programme Manager for National Highways in the South East of England, Colin Evans, said: “When the majority of people get behind the wheel they drive safely and sensibly, but unfortunately a small minority think the rules don’t apply to them and their selfish actions endanger the lives of others on the road network. “Working with our police partners in the Thames Valley, and using the unique perspective we get from the ‘supercab’, we are able to target those individuals with officers taking enforcement action where they believe it is appropriate. “We use the supercab across the country as a means of highlighting bad habits that put other road users in danger. Whatever vehicle you are in, please think about your behaviour when you get behind the wheel and help us make sure everyone gets home safe and well.”

It may have been mentioned elsewhere and I missed it, but just to reinforce the message if that's the case... Some supermarkets, including major chains, have dispensed with putting a date on their fresh perishable items, instead they use a single letter and two numerals. Currently the letter is H which stands for the 8th letter of the alphabet and therefore the 8th month. Yesterday I bought lemons dated H12. Which equates to the 12th of August. I guess as many produce suppliers now supply the international market it is more economical than deciding which goods are destined for which country and translating the month for each. They just use a universal code for everything and leave it to us to understand it. If you hadn't sussed it I hope this helps, if you already knew, sorry for wasting your time.

Thames Valley Police has carried out 31 warrants on suspected cannabis grows as part of the largest national operation of its kind, aimed at unearthing and disrupting organised crime groups (OCGs) and their illegal revenue streams. The warrants, which ran through June 2023, saw 35 arrests as well as the seizures of drugs, plants, and electronic devices. Chief Superintendent Jim Weems of Thames Valley Police said: “Cannabis factories are a very real local threat. Those tasked to look after the plants are often vulnerable and sometimes the victims of human trafficking and modern slavery. “The size of criminal cannabis ‘factories’ means that damage is often caused to the properties themselves; the buildings can become dangerous as a result of fire risks, unlawful abstraction of electricity, fumes and water damage. “Anyone with information about a potential cannabis factory or drug dealing can contact Thames Valley Police online or via 101. In an emergency always call 999. “You can also contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or crimestoppers-uk.org” To find out more, visit our website https://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/news/thames-valley/news/2023/july/03-07-2023/organised-crime-groups-targeted-by-police-who-arrest-35-and-seize-cannabis-plants-worth-an-estimated-4202400/

West Wycombe House and its 5000 acre estate is the home of the Dashwood family and has been since 1698. It's an exquisite Palladian villa with porticoes and colonnades which would be equally comfortable set in either Italy or Greece. A notable comment, "The Gardens are a paradise" was made by Benjamin Franklin.

Liz has left a message in Anything saying she has written to SL Tech but so far no reply. The reason for her message is lack of notifications. If you are able, would you please deal with it and contact her directly. Many thanks. The message from @LizS3 is below: "Basically, I get a morning email of information of messages received, but I am used to getting individual emails throughout the day. I have tried the website, but that's not the same as having regular emails on "hot topics" Not sure what I have done."
