https://youtu.be/yCf2WyBiBmk?si=-k9RguhYU3CV07gG I used to like Sam Smith but the stage he seems to have been in recently has sickened me and the wording of the song Unholy , is well, more than unholy. This is a ‘Christian’ version of the song by Becka Shae and whilst I am not posting it for its Christian content I think it is greatly enhanced and find Becka’s voice stunning

Available now on Netflix A Ken Loach film (possibly his last) Based in 2016 in a former mining town in Northern England rifts start to form with the arrival of refugees from war torn Syria. The families filling up houses that have lain empty for some time. The Kindly landlord of the run down pub takes the brunt of locals anger, biased and racist attitudes for his friendship with Yara who arrives with her family and her camera. As always Loach’s down to earth approach, honesty and sometimes grim detail is realistic, at times heartwarming, at other times heartbreaking. Our opinion (family) Beautiful, endearing, sad, touching - don’t miss it -

I am not sure whether this has been posted elsewhere on the forum or who it will affect but these breaches are very worrying as we are all encouraged to sign up for Direct Debits to pay our bills. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-68284475.amp I have relatives that have received contact from the company and updates (free one year membership to a credit check company) !! -

Earlier in the week Guinness World records turned down this large model of the Eiffel Tower made of headless matches, which to me seemed really strange, as a friend of mine routinely purchased and used this type of ‘match’ for model making over the years. I am glad Guinness finally saw sense but it looks like this was only because the story made headlines. https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2024/feb/09/matchstick-eiffel-tower-guinness-world-records-matches -

Buddy Holly died before I was born but I loved all his music and on Saturday 3rd February it was the 65th Anniversary of his untimely death. BBC Sounds now have a tribute to him, very touching, hearing him, his manager, his wife speaking and presented by Bob Harris . Just ask for Buddy Holly on the app to hear it I couldn’t put a link but this is the show

Something we have discussed on various threads is now being updated The Powers of Attorney Act 2023 aims to digitise the process and make it faster, easier, more accessible and secure. It will: speed up registration time by picking up errors earlier and allowing these to be fixed online. allow checks on the identity of those applying for an LPA to prevent fraud However it doesn’t go far enough and the law society (and I) had concerns before it was agreed https://www.lawgazette.co.uk/news/society-voices-genuine-concerns-about-power-of-attorney-reforms/5110158.article As some of us may have seen on a recent tv show, a friend or relative talks, convinces or sneakily registers a vulnerable person for online banking after gaining their trust and then sets up standing orders or transfers money into other accounts. This is even before a POA! No one checks the persons capability to use the systems and the bank cannot see the person typing in details. I know a blind couple who had no idea and had not requested an online account who now do not get bank statements whilst two relatives, one that has moved in with them check, filter, shop, transfer and make payments without any discussion or permission of the account holders. So it is no less likely for those prepared to do so, to do the same with one. Even taking the POA out totally online. Then receiving the new online key to notify banks and other institutions that they are now able to act on behalf of the person or persons. What do members think 🤔 of the reforms? If you haven’t seen it or hadn’t noticed the update of the original advert please check it out. It’s quite stunning, a work of art and history as the child and her mother enter the shop pre war and leave it in the modern day. Watch how many changes of clothes the shopkeeper wears and the little girls ribbons and hairbands etc. https://www.thedrum.com/news/2024/01/08/ad-the-day-cadbury-remakes-mum-s-birthday-mark-200th-anniversary -
